Damon's letter (players trib)

My take away - Damon watched The Young and the Restless?!?

Seriously though, that was a great article, gives a great perspective.

Yeah I enjoyed that. I never hated Damon like a lot of the blazer fans though. Loved watching him play for the home team even if he took some really dumb shots.

Damnit, I didn't want to have to like Damon.

Craig Sager comes over to interview you in his fly purple suit and you’re so nervous you can barely talk. You’re going to say “help the team” like 100 times in 30 seconds. Say something else, Dame. Anything.

I feel like he would be a lot more successful in the current NBA than 15 years ago.

Sidebar: Trivia for you guys. Probably the most prominent bust of the previous NBA era was drafted #1 out of the college Damon will coach: Michael Olowokandi.

I know, right?

I have never heard anyone refer to him as "Dame," until this article. It just doesn't feel right.

I was a HUGE Stoudamire fan when we traded for him. I was so psyched that we had acquired him, and I defended him fiercely, even though he never really lived up to the expectations. I lost all respect for him after he started bitching about playing time before game one against San Antonio in the WCF. That was unforgivable to me. You don't bitch about PT while you're about to start playing in the fucking western conference finals.

Good read!
I was at that same Jack Ramsey camp. I went to several of his camps when I was a kid.

Good read. Thanks for posting. I remember the bitching too, Nate. I knew where he was coming from though. Isiah was prepping him to be a star PG that closes games. Then, in Portland, Dunleavy played Greg Anthony in 4th quarters. Timing was off, I guess, but other stats would've complained. I can't imagine any of the great PGs would've been happy not playing in the 4th.

Anthony played because Damon sucked at defense.

Damon also made dumb decisions at the end of games.

Besides Damon, I didn't think there was anyone else who thought he was a great PG. Talent wise, I never thought he was an average starter let alone great. Terrible D, couldn't make an entry pass or finish... his lone positive was being a decent option at the end of the 24 second clock.

People will start calling the team the Jail Blazers, and you’re going to be lumped in with it.
Lumped? The main reason he isn't thought of as the face of the Jail Blazer era is that Quick always had his back in return for regularly throwing everyone else under the bus. JQ's praise was so effusive & loving, many posters in this community were convinced they were dating. I can't think of any player whose off court time while a Trailblazer was as much of a PR train wreck. Just a selfish, low IQ, jerk off.

As an OSU alumn, the Gary Payton section was my favorite, especially:

"This is the level of trash talk you’re up against now. Don’t even open your mouth. If Gary’s going to do Scottie like that, he’ll send you to therapy."
