Personally I think Diop should be the top of our RFA list. If he goes who the hell is going to rebound for us? Either Ghost of Jason Kidd hits the boards or Boone averages 27 a game.

(Yes thats a hyperbole, but for a horrible rebounding team I'd like to think we hold on to defenders and rebounders)

I may be over analyzing this, but judging from Diop's stats it seems that he's a good offensive boarder and an average defensive rebounder. You can never have "too much" offensive rebounds, but to me it seems that Nets' bigger concern is defensive rebounding.

For example, look at our big men:
Krstic - typically 2OFF / 2.5DEF
Boone: 2.7/4.5
Sean: 1.6/2.8
Swift: 1.7/3.1
Diop: 1.5/2.5

Which basically means that a large chunk of our defensive rebounds are getting picked up by our guards.. And if the other team has good rebounding instincts or good offensive rebounders, we get killed.

What I'm driving at is that Diop is a good defender, but not necessarily a good rebounder that we need. Thus, if we actually DO get Brand, I'd rather have Krstic or Boone paired with him, rather than Diop.

The Nets' strategy on the defenseive boards has always been to box out the opposing bigs and let the guards get the rebounds. That's why the Nets' were a very strong defensive rebounding team with Collins in the game, despite the fact that Collins himself got very few rebounds. On the offensive glass, though, it is every man for himself, so Collins' poor leaping ability hurt. Whether the Nets can continue this strategy with Harris replacing Kidd is a different matter, though.

I'm not surprised about Boki; however, I can't believe that they won't make an attempt to resign Diop.

We've got the inside track to sign one of the best defensive players in the league, and we're going to screw it up. Thorn almost had me convinced he was competent with the Kidd trade, but then he's got to go and remind me how terrible he is at dealing with free agency.

Diop is the opposite of Collins. Started off bad and turned good.

If Diop goes it had better be in a sign and trade. I'm fine with losing Boki and if someone is going to overpay Nenad it better not be us. We have alot of work ahead of us and overpaying any one of those three will be a move we'll kick ourselves for later on. We need to figure out how to combine one of two of these guys mentioned into a solid player who will help us bridge the gap until we establish an identity.

It's entirely possible that a team could come along and offer him the full MLE...if that's the case then he walks. Considering a player like Thabeet is going to be available at 21, and we are already deep in our frontcourt it just doesn't make sense signing Diop for excessive money.

If any players deserves 4 year 4million a year it's JR Smith and Pietrus

Let Diop go he is sub par defender but nothing more. Like a Bo Outlaw which deserves no more than 2-3 mil.

JR Smith is worth much more than 4 million a year, he would probably be matched unless offered somewhere around 6.5-7 million a year...as for Pietrus, he'll probably recieve close to the full MLE by some team looking for a 6th man...like Dallas or Phoenix.

Matt Carroll got 5/$24 million. Matt Carroll is a better deep shooter, but Nachbar is a better athlete, taller, better at running the court, etc.

Be prepared to pay that much or he will be gone.

Diop will get close to the same. Cuban will want him back as a trade do-over (particularly after the Mavs are swept and Avery is fired). The Nets could offer him more than the MLE and prevent that, but won't.

Someone will offer Krstic $4 to $5 million as well. If they want the Nets not to match, they play with the years.

I doubt all three come back.

Good point Net income I forgot about carrols deal and even Kapono got around that same type of money. Out of the three free agents that we have I believe boki will return. I still can't believe someone will give Krstic big time money like 4-5 mil. I can also forsee Cuban throwing the whole MLE at Diop to bring back his inforcer. If we can some how get JR Smith at 5 years 24 mil there is no way Denver matches because of there salary and other players they have to sign. And if we can get Jefferson and parts for Brand, we wouldn't need Diop. What we do need is a veteran power forward in the mold of oakly/Aaron Williams to bring toughness and also to teach the young bigs how to foul hard and stare down players from driving in the lane.
