When all other avenues come up empty, former major champions sometimes will enter Monday qualifying in an attempt to play their way into PGA Tour events. Rare, if ever, has a former world No. 1 ventured down that road, though.
That was the case for David Duval this week in the Arizona desert. The 2001 Open Championship winner teed it up Monday on the Pine Course at McCormick Ranch Golf Club and shot 73, missing a playoff by 5 shots and ending his hopes of making it into the field for this week's Waste Management Phoenix Open.
