Death of the Superteam?

With the obvious shenanigans in LA after letting Lebron play GM and now the implosion of the Nets, it makes me wonder if the super teams are starting to fade out.

Organically built teams are prospering. And dare I say it, but defense is looking like it’s coming back with the new wave of young coaches.

I see ownerships backing off from buying into the idea of super teams.

Look at baseball where the Yankees haven’t won a World Series in 14 years, despite having kind of their selection of whoever they want.

Neither the Lakers or Nets ever were superteams. Just a couple teams led by flawed duos. To be fair, though, what was inorganic about how the Nets built their team? Cleared cap and signed two flawed stars. Only won one playoff series in 3 years. They were overhyped in Vegas. I never believed in them.

They mortgage their future especially if they give up to many draft picks and dint grow organically.
I think GS will re-engineer some either next year ir year after.

I really think Simmons is what the Nets need in order to be a elite team but even fully healthy I don't think they're beating the best team in the Eastern Conference since the all star break, four times in a row after losing to them three times in a row but a game 7 would be pretty bonkers to see. So I'll be rooting for the Nets to make history.

last superteam was the Warriors and they won 2 straight championships. Before that Miami won 2 straight titles and were in the finals 4 straight years

if the circumstances align, there will be a superteam or two in the future....that payoff is too attractive

I think Harden was an afterthought. I don’t think he was part of any plan. He forced himself to where he thought would be easiest to win title. Then they lost 11 straight so he forced himself to Philly.

IRL Kyrie is a whack job. Any team that thinks they can rely on him is just plain dumb. Harden is a class "A" malcontent. They then compounded that mistake by swapping him for Simmons - an even bigger malcontent and malingerer. It took a work of staggering intelect to find a "star" player that contributed even less than Kyrie or Harden - but they pulled it off.

Was Simmons a malcontent before the last year? Had you ever suspected him of faking an injury before?

Too many injuries and missed games was the problem.
If you're a GM you'd be dumb not to try to get the most talented players together on a team.

The Dodgers have been the biggest spenders in baseball and won a chip in 2020 so, the baseball analogy isn’t the greatest.

Also I don’t think super teams are gonna be “out”. But I think owners are going to be more aware of how the players will play together. For example, Irving and Harden never made sense.

LeBron, Wade made much more sense from a “fit” perspective.
