But others, such as the rumored deal where Portland would send Sergio Rodriguez, Martell Webster, and Travis Outlaw to the Pistons for Tayshaun Prince and their No. 15 pick.

Guess who Chad Ford has Detroit picking? Earl Clark.

If this trade were to go through it would work for both sides pretty well. First off it would give Detroit a package of young talent, which they will need since they will be going into a rebuilding phase.

It would also unplug the clog at the small forward position for Portland. Batum would be able to play behind Prince, coming off the bench, and playing more minutes than he would as a starter.

The deal would also give Portland another young player to build up. That's what successful franchises do. When their teams fare well, they bring in young talent to build up. It's a cyclical process.

I think Prince has diminished and am lower on him than many, but even I think that deal is insane in favour of Portland.

Too good to be true. This would be awesome!

I hear ya. For certain, the Blazers would have to include the #24 to Detroit, right?

Yeah I think I could handle that deal, and I'm someone who's a bigger fan of Martell and Sergio than most.

It isn't a slam dunk, though. Prince is 29 and making a LOT of money (owed like $21m over the remaining two years of his deal) and he didn't look very good this year. Is he a buy-low opportunity? I think so.... but it's not a guarantee that he'll be the player we all have come to know and love.

Ed O.

At #15 we could take Blair or take a chance on, as mentioned in this blog, Earl Clark.

But where is this blogger getting this information from?

We would be the ones getting robbed in that deal. Prince is so overrated it's ridiculous.

Just for giggles, if we did this trade (and ran before they could change their mind) how would using Sergio and more importantly Martell and Travis in a trade affect our plans or lack there of for upgrading our PG status??? Does this mean we roll with Blake and Bayless or do we still have enough to go after someone else. Im sure the answer is different for different player scenarios such as upgrade via draft vs. trade vs. free agency. Seems like it would make a trade to upgrade PG much less likely and lean towards free agency which leans towards players like Sessions. Thoughts?

We'd still have cap space. How much depends on what other moves we'd make. If we did nothing else, we'd probably be down to $5M.

are u kidding me??? tayshaun is twice the man any one of those guys are... who sergio rodriguez travis outlaw and martell webster?? why on gods green earth would detroit want any of them... doesnt fill any of the needs they have now... and especially losing that 15th pick that would be a ridiculous downgrade for everything... a terrible trade idea...

Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to Detroit and Portland being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Detroit and Portland had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

It works but Martell would still have to pass a physical.

Tayshaun and the No. 15 pick would be awesome. Who better to tutor Nicolas than the man we expect him to turn into? I'd be in favor of this deal.

So if we did this deal, then cut Steve Blake and renounced the rights to Freeland and Kopo, we still might have around ~10 million left....enough to sign Ben Gordon or Andre Miller?

I agree with the posters who say Prince is over-rated....I'd be disappointed if he's the biggest upgrade we made.

I could possibly see a deal like Travis, Sergio, Martell and our own #24 for Prince, and even then I'm not sure they would do it.

Heck if Martell is healthy he'll be better than Tayshaun himself. Prince is not that good of a player. Just look at his stats for this year's playoffs. He was horrible.

This is laughable ... even if one bad series out of 7 years of playoff appearances defined Prince's ability to play, to suggest that Martell will be better than Prince now or ever sure seems like a lot of wishful thinking based on what, hope?

There, fixed it for you.

Yours was good too though.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Webster's legend grows by the day.

You guys just wait and see. I'm comfortable that I know a lot more about NBA players than anyone else here.

Dumars liked him enough to pass on Melo.

UH-huh.

I like this deal as it brings us a strong veteran presence and will play a very nice complimentary role.

You can't measure him by one bad series that was really a merciful end to a tumultuous season. I think that Prince might have the "Gasol-effect" wherein a good player loses his will to play in a nightmarish hell-hole of divergent personalities and mediocre basketball. Once transported to a contender the individual suffering from the "Gasol-effect" suddenly regains their skillz and desire.

How's that new gig as the director of Blazers' NBA scouting working out for you anyway?

Now WHY would I want that job???

And yes, some of you better put me on ignore. I am the world's foremost authority on evaluating talent.
