That of the 16 retired numbers that 5 of those #s were worn by others after the player stopped playing for the Yankees.

#1 Billy Martin - worn by 2 others after.
#3 Babe Ruth - Worn by 7 others after.
#9 Roger Maris - Worn by 4 others after.
#10 Phil Rizzuto - Worn by 7 others after
#49 Ron Guidry - Worn by 1 other after

And #4 is the only retired EVER worn by just 1 player. Lou Gehrig.

Just thought I'd share.

Now one is ever wearing #2 again. I still can't believe Mike Gallego ever wore #2....

My only other favorite #2 was Bobby Murder (RIP).

Joe DiMaggio's first number was #9 in 1936. Hank Bauer wore #9 as a 3 time allstar, same as Maris. The #9 that was a 5 time allstar was Greg Nettles.

His original # though was #1 And Mantles's original # was #6. After Maris & before Nettles #9 was worn by Steve Whitaker, Dick Simpson & Ron Woods.
