Photog nerds - what art thou rocking?

Cameras:
Nikon d90
Fujifilm x-pro1
.

Lens:
Voigtlander 58mm
Fujifilm 90mm

Also, is there a way that I can connect the Nikon to a smartphone or tablet as a live monitor?

Go!

My wife has a Nikon something and a Canon something. I only use the Canon cause it's a "point and shoot" camera and I know next to nothing about photography.

How about Leica, are they still in business? I think they sent cameras to space and the moon.
Also, Canon used to make a pretty good slr for the money.
I use to use Kodak but that must have been literally half a century ago. Back then, they were the best for the buck.

Olympus OMD E-M1, E-PL7, E-PM2

I got tons of lens - mostly old ones that I adapt to these cameras.

Some of my favorites old ones:
1950 Kodak Cine Ektar 25mm 1.4
1957 Kern Paillard Pizar 26mm 1.9
1950's Kodak Cine Ektanon 63mm 2.7
1960's Minolta MC Rokkor 58mm 1.4
1970's Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm 1.7 (I usually shoot this with a speed booster)
1970's Helios 44M-6 58mm 2

Among my 'modern' glass that I like
Rokinon 85mm 1.4
Olympus ZD 14-54mm 2.8 - 3.5
Olympus ZD 50mm Macro 2
Olympus ZD 50-200mm 2.8 - 3.5
Panasonic Lumix G 20mm 1.7

I would be surprised if you can connect the Nikon to be used as a viewer - this usually requires some kind of a wifi connection that can stream video in the camera. I have one camera like this - an Olympus Air A01 - and it is not fast enough or reliable enough of a connection to really use it (and this is from a camera that was specifically built for this purpose). My other Olympus cameras can be triggered remotely by wifi - but they do not stream video.

I got some really interesting things done with the Air A01 - but I am using it less and less - it is really not good enough a connection to be used regularly. The white portion in this picture is the camera - and you can put any M4/3 lens on it.

FWIW - there is this doohickie you can buy for the Nikon:

I am not certain it provides live-view (streaming) - but it adds some wireless tools and looks big enough to potentially have the power to do proper streaming.

My girlfriend is interested in getting into photography and mentioned that she’d prefer the options that comes with going digital.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid starter camera? I’d look to stay around the $500 price point. I know very little about photography, so any help would be appreciated.

I use to have a Canon 35 mm SLR with a telephoto and a 28 mm lens. I used a Fuji fast film. Shot most of my shots in Vietnam. When I returned to college my parents moved and all my photos where lost. Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit.

Man, I took my daughter to Best Buy 2 yers ago and got an entry level Cannon. Came with a bundle, SD card, cables case, etc. It was perfect for her. Probably only set me back about $325. Bluetooth to her laptop or phone, it's fantastic.

Thanks, HCP! I was looking at the Nikon D3500 or one of the same level Canons.

I lucked into an auction on eBay for the Nikon CoolPix B500. I don't use it a lot, but it's really good for taking zoom picture (of the moon or something). Takes decent video too.

I'm convinced the one I bought was either stolen or a gift the person got and didn't need, because I won the bid at like 55 bucks.

Ya brother I‘M not squared away enough to give you the best recommendation. I’m quite sure others on here could help more than me. Good luck.

And I post em online! Want to see some of the video I've taken of the fireworks?

She must have many poses. What's her favorite position?

Joke’s on you. She models.
I’m torn here......I had about 3 or 4 different ways I was going to go with this..... but Sly said I’m on double secret probation, so I’m going to have to just leave it alone.....

It’s probably for the best ;-)

Egad, double secret probation is one of Sly's worst punishments. Ask me how I know.
