Do gay people choose to be gay?

I think it's ridiculous to think that people choose to be homosexual. I never choose my sexual orientation, it was never a choice, my brain is stimulated by sexy women...I can't just all the sudden change and want a penis pushed up my rear. It doesn't work that way. It's pretty much been proven it's something your born with, my supervisor at work used to be in day care and she knew her little cousin and another boy were gay by how they acted. We all know most gay people act feminin and walk and talk differently, they don't choose to be that way...they have a more female mind. Hell even animals have a long history of homosexual behavior. Homosexuality might not be 'normal' because it's under 5% of the population but it's natural and has been around forever. If your going to respond don't just post some ignorant/lame response....explain yourself and what you think of my thoughts.

I think in some cases yes. But at that point, it's the individual's reasoning that's behind the decision. If somebody wants to be gay, they can. You don't just have to be born hetero or homosexual.

I think Homosexuality is a genetic mess up. sometime during the development of the fetus something just doesn't go the way its suppost to, and the person ends up being gay. the University of Oregon was doing some study into homosexuality, using gay sheep(yes the sheep were gay, they liked sex with Rams over Ewes), and they found a cromosome(sp?) that was differnt in the gay sheep.

First, I believe Men were made for Woman, and Woman made for Men - It is a human's natural instinct to mate with their counterpart; so I believe homosexuality is not normal, it is something that comes from that person's environment. I don't believe people are born homosexual, I believe homosexuality is something acquired through the conditions that are in that individuals life. Now - I do believe someone could be born with less of the "natural instinct" of a heterosexual - which is to mate with the opposite sex; so this person who isn't as 'natural' as the straight guy - with the right conditions, could become interested in the same sex and develop some kind of relationship. A relationship, whether it be male/male or male/female can become strong - I can have a good relationship with my best friend, who is a guy - something like that. So that person has the illusion that they really love this person who is the same sex, and therefore believe being gay is a real thing that you are born with and take it even further with getting married and so on. That group is small - where you are born with less of that desire to mate naturally...The rest, or the majority to me are just products of their environment, and their own will. I know SO MANY kids that become gay/bisexual for a while, than become straight again...this was just testing the other side out because it's so popular to become gay now - it's ok - its seriously something like a trend. I believe a lot of people also become gay just because of bad experiences with the opposite sex...I know two girls who have become lesbian just because they were hurt by the opposite sex too many times, and felt that a girl is what they need to get away from all the pain.There are so many ways people think - that its impossible to map out all of the possible ways someone could be gay...all I know is that Gay is not natural - I would not totally rule out the possiblilty of it being a genetic mutation, either.

yeah its not a choice. Who would choose to be persecuted thier entire life. Get disowned by thier family, get bashed by small minded people. No-one would CHOOSE that. I say it genetic.

It's not a chronic disease that is unescapeable; I know a guy who left being gay, and he was gay because he was different than other people (more feminine and stuff).I also know people who seem gay but they are definitely not.What I'm trying to get at is that sure people are born different, but it's their choice on what they want to do with that. I'm sure you havent seen a gay kid because it's not natural to have those feelings for the same sex.

Why is 'not normal or un-natural' that a small percentage be gay? Just because it's not a majority of people?

No. Ask any gay guy you know if he would rather be straight and accepted by society. Their initial answer will probably be no because of the whole "proud to be gay" thing, but if they trust you and you know them well, they will say they would rather be accepted by society than not. And yes, I do have a few gay friends.

You guys have to remember that there isn't just Gay and Straight. There are guys out there who sleep with men but wouldn't consider themselves gay. Now that is a choice. But being attracted and having deep feelings for someone of the same sex is a little more complicated. Not too many people can choose to do that. A man falling in love with another man is in most cases not a choice, it's how that guy feels.
