Aliotti called it a "low class" move by Washington State coach Mike Leach.

"I am kind of stunned he would keep his quarterback and crew in there,'' Aliotti told reporters after the Ducks' 62-38 win, according to The Oregonian. "And still he threw the ball with 20 seconds left. But he did.

Personally, I think it's cheap but it's not the first time a team has left their starters on the field well after our starters have left the game. Not sure if the motivation is to make the score look more respectable, or if they were trying to get the stats, but I couldn't care less. It was still a blowout.

Also, I think it's a good thing that our second, third, and fourth stringers get experience against the WSU first string.

I totally agree. I was at the game and it was over for the whole 4th quarter and we were clearly subbing in players like a speed round of hockey to give our kids some game experience. The Leach used that as a way to make his team look good in one statistical column and it showed 0 Class!

I think it's short sighted. He needs to develop players and keeping starters in when a game is totally lost/won is counterproductive.

My theory why Duck's coaches are upset: take a look at the latest AP poll. Bama 1; Ducks 2; FSU 3........but if you look at the actual vote totals, FSU is much closer to 2nd than the Ducks are to first.

Ducks have to be twice as good as the "traditional" powers to get the same respect.

I don't know... I don't think it's exclusive to WSU though.

Tennessee left their starters in during the 4th and they scored a TD with 7 minutes left in the game.

Cal scored two touchdowns at the end of that game. One after we subbed out our starters in the third, and one with 3 minutes left in the 4th.

I think Nick is mostly unhappy about them breaking that record.

To be fair, FSU just dismantled the #3 team. But our time is coming as we have UCLA and Stanford in the next two weeks.

Florida state only plays one more ranked team for the rest of the season.

We play UCLA, Stanford, and if OSU keeps playing the way they're playing, they should be in the top 25 as well. I'm not worried about FSU.

Clemson is the only team they've played. Unless you're giving style points for Bethune Cookman and Nevada. They still have Florida and Miami left to play and the ACC championship. We'll see....

Yep, they have to earn heir stripes.

And at this point, only Miami is ranked. Florida has dropped out of the top 25.

Let me ask you this. Do you think 'those' two touchdowns scored in the fourth quarter hurt the Ducks positioning in the BCS Standings this week?

I find nothing wrong with Leach. He has a responsibility to his team and his team alone. If anything, I find something very wrong with the Oregon D for not taking more pride in stopping them from scoring in the fourth quarter.

I think FSU crushing #3 Clemson at home had a lot to do with the Ducks starting out at #3. I'm not worried though. Their schedule sucks from here out. Their only ranked opponent is Miami. We have UCLA, Stanford, OSU, and then most likely UCLA again if we make it to the PAC12 championship.

That and Washington there third in a row in a big way. Probably also didn't help

I don't think it's cheap, but I would've if Mariota had been throwing TDs up 30 late in the 4th.

If the losing team wants to keep playing, I don't have a serious problem with that. Getting the 1st-string offense some reps against even backups is probably more important to Leach than having his backup QB look lost. :dunno:

I don't think it's embarrassing for a team to throw 89 times against you. What's mildly embarrassing is when they put up 558 yards (or whatever) and 38 points in doing so. Alabama's backups didn't give up a score to Arkansas. :dunno:

As Aliotti pointed out, this was against our scout team essentially. Our rotate in and out during the entire game. Thomas Tyner is our third string running back... think about that

The 4th quarter is basically our fourth string running back, and a bunch of other guys that most likely will never seen significant minutes for the Ducks. The Wazzu starters were basically hanging a couple touchdowns on our 4th string.

Couple things.... Had WSU been trying to score instead of just throwing 6 yard screens and slants then I would have said Leach has a right to coach his team to the very end but he was going for completions not TD's . A passing record, not a victory simply put.

As for FSU " this year" beating Miami will be a cakewalk at the same time hurts us a ton! The Canes are 7 rights now. Have any of you seen Miami play this year? Commentators are baffled as to how these guys are even in the top 10 be it they can't score against a kinda awful UNC defense. FSU will walk over them and that will give them BCS cred. For some reason the BCS values the ACC over the PAC-12 as football conference. Clemson has been exposed as a pretender and I'd take UW over both Miami and Clemson right now in a head to head matchup. So when we take out UCLA at 12 this week and say OSU were to take out Stanford at home next weekend. Stanford drops to like a 15 and then FSU plays a 5th ranked then Miami.... See where I'm going here?

So then it comes down to the ACC championship and the Pac-12 championship for the final BCS points and we're playing UCLA a team we've already beaten while FSU is playing a then 10th ranked VaTech that's been hanging around in that awful coastal division of the ACC. We could be BCS'D cause the computer is not factoring in what a joke the ACC is. This is why the BCS is being flushed for this exact reason! If FSU gets into the national championship against a potential Bama, you can hand Bama the trophy right now for a 3rd time!

I would put the ACC on the same level as Louisville this year, ironically Louisville is joining them next year.

Aliotti is a clown.

I don't really agree with Aliotti on this but he isn't a clown. If Oregon State had Aliotti instead of their current DC they would have a good shot to beat the Ducks quite a few times in the last 6-7 years. I was on the fire Alliotti band wagon when we had MB but I have to admit I was way wrong. He is a great DC especially with a hurry up offense. The way he subs his players and teaches the LB's is something to appreciate. The clown is the WSU head coach. I really thought he was a good coach but I'm wrong again.

2002 - Oregon down 21 to OSU 4:10 left starting QB throwing passes
2002 - Down 28 to Wash w/ 6:48 starting QB passing
2003 - down 45 to ASU w/ :20 left starting QB passing
2003 - down 32 to Wash w/ 2:20 left starting QB passing
2004 - down 29 to OSU w/ 7:55 left starting QB passing
2006 - down 28 to Cal w/ 6:12 left starting QB passing
2008 - down 27 to USC w/ 3:50 left starting QB passing
2009 -down 9 to Stan w/:11 left starting QB passing
2011 - down 20 to LSU w/ 2:52 left staring QB passing

I think Aliotti was pissed this is hurting his defensive stats. Coordinators are judged by the stats and at the end of the year nobody looks if its when a starter was in or not. His defense will go down as giving up 38 points that day. He was acting like a childish prick. I've heard teams criticized for running up the score when winning but I've never once heard of a losing team being criticized for trying to score. Leach has a duty to improve that WSU team and the starters having a bunch of success at the end of a blow out can be a big benefit to struggling team. Those late game scores can carry over to the next game and give a little bit of positive momentum or hope to a team that needs it.

What happened and what I think allioti is actuallt pissed about is that WSU wasnt trying to make the game score seem more respectable and he wasn't trying to pull off a miracle win, Leah was simply trying to have his QB set the record for pass attempts in an NCAA game. Which happened but who really cares, in the long term it doesnr matter.

I don't know why he'd be mad about attempts, though. It's one thing for WSU to pad yards or TD's (if they're up huge). Or even completions against your D.

But getting the attempts record? If he had gone 8-for-89, I don't think he'd have been upset. But his D (granted, his walk-on 4th-stringers) got 38 points and 558 yards and 55 completions hung on them. I could see him being mildly embarrassed by that [as I said earlier, Alabama was in a bigger blowout and didn't give up a point--and to a similarly-talented (probably a bit worse) team. Clemson's WAAY better than WSU and only got 14 in their blowout loss].

The attempts record? Don't see it as an issue at all, and don't see the nation going "oooh...you got 89 attempts hung on you!"

So Aliotti is mad WSU was marching down the field with short throws, but he would've been accepting of them throwing it deep? Why didn't he dial up a defense to prevent that? That is the job of a defensive coordinator, to stop the opponent offense or make them take what you give them. Allioti wasn't able to do that.

Its arrogant to tell your opponent in a blow out the manner in which they should accept losing. If WSU was trying to injure guys it would be one thing but they were trying to compete to the end. Aliotti has since publicly apologized so I take that as a sign he realize what a prick he sounded like and how disrespectful his complaining was in a blow out win.

Since the Pac-12 fined Aliotti $5K I'd say they didn't agree with him either.

did you see his daughter tweet "there go my Christmas presents"?

Nicole Aliotti ‏@nicole_aliotti 21 Oct
@DuckFootball there goes my Christmas presents

One might also think it's quite pathetic to go after passing records with no intent of scoring, to make a record book for a game your team got destroyed in against another teams scout unit for a whole quarter.
