Why or why not? I believe in the saying "What goes around comes around."

I used to, but I know far too many ass clowns that never get theirs.

I believe that if you start stupid threads on the internet, that you will receive stupid responses to the thread.

Not sure if that's karma, though.

I don't necessarily know if this is a stupid thread though. I'm going through a bit of an annoying stretch with a woman...and imho, karma needs to pay her a visit.

But it won't. And that sucks.

I didn't mean for my reply to be taken outside of the confines of this thread. Some people lack the ability to feel remorse. If you date one of them, it sucks.

It does. I'm a big believer in honesty about that kind of stuff, and i hate being lead on.

It's not the first time, and sadly, it won't be the last time. In all honesty, it's probably for the best (what Im talking about). If thats how you're going to treat people, thats more on you than its on me.

Oh well, there's always heroin.

Well it could happen later in life as well.

I don't believe in karma exactly, but I do believe that over time people like to be around nice people and don't like being around dicks. So this results is something similar to karma, people who do bad stuff usually have bad stuff happen to them. But it's not some cosmic force, it's people not looking out for mean people and looking out for good folk.

Karma is all-knowing and relentlessly efficient. Live by The Golden Rule and you shall know heaven on Earth.

Do unto The Dalles folk as you would have them do unto you.

so then why have I been stuck in purgatory for so long?

Did you ever diss Kass? Her and Karma are part of the K family. They stick together like glue.

I don't believe I "dissed" her.

Can we please have a thread that's not about kass

You're right. The whole undertone of the thread leads to Bush. If karma ruled, Bush and Cheney would have gotten back what they did to millions of Iraqis. Obviously, karma is imagined, to make us feel better. Bush proves it.

Um, That's a lot better

Here's someone who believes in karma.

It's best not to believe in karma. Don't do what he did. I love the NSA. They are cool. Don't be a terrorist.

Do not idolize him. The NSA needs more funding. Give everyone there a raise.

I've never seen empirical evidence for the existence of Karma, so I gotta pass.

basically this.

in what sense?

certain actions tend to have a high probability of either beneficial or detrimental consequences as a matter of direct causality, but that's utterly trivial. saying it's "karma" that if you are kind to others it will increase the likelihood that they will be kind to you is no different that saying it's karma to have a hangover after a drinking binge.

any use of karma that transcends this trivial meaning actually steps into the realm of a direct metaphysical claim, and is no less loony than invisible friends etc.

Do unto The Dalles folk as you would have them do unto you.

The greater good was in warning innocent people who might have traveled to The Dalles upon your suggestion. Having stopped there numerous times because it was the only gas on my way to somewhere inhabitable, I have already paid my penance for outing it as possibly the worst town in Oregon to live in.

Just because someone has invisible friends does not mean that his/her invisible friends are looney. In fact, most people's invisible friends are quite sane. You just can't see it.

No, I'm a straight carnivore.

<lights fuse, runs away, laughing maniacally>

Karma means all the people Ive fucked over had it coming.

Do I believe that my status in life is a direct result of my actions and choices in a previous life? Do I believe that my purpose in this life is primarily to embrace the station that I was born into and fulfill only that station, never aspiring towards anything different or greater? Do I believe that there is justification for class warfare, for example, that the rich shouldn't share their wealth with the poor because that would only ensure that they would be poor again in their next life?

The answer is no.

I realize that most of you are talking about the Westernized version of "karma", but that is nothing like the Law of Cause and Effect (Karma) that is described by religious philosophies such as Hinduism.
