what do you guys think? he is putting up better stats than last year, but some would say he made the all-star last year as a fluke..

i think he is in by coaches decision for sure. but no way he is voted in.

If we keep winning there is no doubt he'll be in the All Star game.

No Ipod needed this year! He's a near lock.

I'd put him at the same level of Deron Williams right now. Brandon may not have the stats like Deron can put up but when the game is on the line, there is no doubt both guys can take over.
But Chris Paul is still a notch above those two.

And yes, Brandon is an All-Star for sure.

I really questioned whether or not he was gonna make it again this year before the season started, I thought last year he was deserving of recognition but that Deron Williams not being in the game was a bit of a snub. But he has exceeded all of my expectations this year, and is unquestionably the best player on a very very good team. As far as the west guards goes, with AI in the east now I think the starters are CP3 and Kobe (T-mac might get the China vote because he's on the team with Yao, but I don't think he deserves to even be at the allstar weekend this year let alone voted in by the fans), and I think Nash and Roy are the obvious next two in the game from the coaches (Dwill might take Nash's place if he comes back strong, but the time missed hurts him in my book).

I think Roy has clearly been the 2nd best SG in the west, and has even carried this Blazers team more so than Kobe has the Lakers so far this year(mostly because the Lakers blowing everyone out means he doesn't have to).

yeah i agree he makes it, he is carrying the number 2 team in the west...maybe aldridge will make it next year

as long as we keep winning more than we're losing and he stays healthy he's a lock. deron and parker injuries hurt their chances. mcgrady and kidd aren't doing much. nash is having an off year. right now it's probably paul/billups kobe/roy.

And we're going to get to see our future backcourt again

Kidding.

Coaches love players like Brandon and that will once again be reflected by their decision to send him to Phoenix this season. He'll probably never be voted in, though.

Roughly in order...

Kobe
Paul
Nash
Deron Williams
Billups
Parker
McGrady
Kidd
Kevin Martin
Ginobili
Durant (?)
Baron
Mayo

That's a very deep list of quality guards in the west. I think Roy will make it, but several equally deserving players will get left off, so I'm not certain of it.

I think Kobe and Paul are the only two Western guards who are clearly better than Roy, and will likely be the fan selections. I think Roy and Williams will be the first two guards selected by coaches.

There is no way in hell Deron is better than Roy this year. Just for the record - during this stretch, Roy's PER of 23 is higher than Deron's best year ever (last year, PER of 21). Deron this year is coming back from an injury and he is nowhere near as productive as he was in the past - he now hovers at less than 17 PER.

Someone would have to play out of his mind or Roy would have to have a huge drop off in production not to get in. He is as close to a coaches choice lock as you can get.

I think it will be Kobe and CP3 voted in - and the coaches choose Brandon, Nash and either Parker or Deron. At this point - it is Parker that's in, not Deron.

He has to be voted in by the coaches. What was it, two-three weeks ago Barkley was saying Portland doesn't have a clutch player or was he specifically disrespecting Roy with that comment?? Roy has been consistent and does what this team needs when it needs it. If the teams were decided today, it would be unthinkable NOT to select him.

I think we should compare him only to shooting guards- Kobe is the best in the west. Then Roy competes with McGrady, Rcihardson and Kevin Martin.

Roy currently has the highest PER.

All-Star team doesn't divide guards between shooting guards and point guards (nor does it divide forwards between small forwards and power forwards). All guards are in the same pool, competing for guard spots on the team.

What guards in the West have had a better season thus far?

Paul (although NO hasn't performed to the expectations of most)
Kobe (but it is closer than you'd think)
Tony Parker (Playing great, but SAS aren't exactly lighting the world on fire)

That's it. Two of those are at the 1.

Roy won't be voted in, but should be a coach's pick, no question. It would be an absolute crime for him to be left off based on play this season.

There's no question he's an all-star. The only SG's in his league are Kobe, Manu and Kevin Martin. Manu and Martin have both missed significant time with injury and Roy is the undeniable leader of this team. He would have to hit a real cold streak or get injured for him not to make the squad as a coach's choice.

Richardson plays for the Bobcats. Or am I missing someone?

Yes and he should be starting along side Kobe. Sorry, CP3 is sick, but what Roy has done so far this year, with this schedule..He simply deserves it, bu wont b/c fans are morons.

Without question. We have the 2nd best record in the Western Conference. He is our star player. He has hit a couple game winning shots that have gotten national attention. I agree that only Kobe and Paul are ahead of him. The others are hasbeens, notenoughs, and notyets.

Actually, Denver is tied with us and they've played great since acquiring Billups, so that should make Billups as much of a lock as Roy.

Face it guys, a homer can make a similarly compelling case for any of the top 6-8 guards.

Roy made another leap this year and he was good enough to make it last year. Several coaches have said their main focus on defense against Portland is to stop B-Roy. Unfortunately for them, he has entered the realm of the nearly unstoppable this year. He is the best player on a surging Blazer team. I can't imagine he doesn't make it via coaches vote.

I do think that Roy will never be voted in as a started. Portland doesn't get enough play on the east coast and Roy's game is flashy enough. I figure he is going to make the All-Star game a few times before it is all said and done but only via the coaches.

Best player on one of the best records in the West. He'll make it by the coaches for sure.. unless Portland starts losing like crazy (or injury of course). I do hope Williams makes it too. he deserves it as well.
