bench Roy??

Not a flame.... Seriously.

Come on. We're on a serious slide since his return. The guy goes 33 mins and has 2 rebounds, 0 assists and 2 turnovers on 3-9 shooting.

I'm frustrated. Things are not going well... What the heck is the answer?
It certainly isn't, 'I want the ball more and need to shoot more, Roy'.
I cursed Barkley for his harsh words about Roy several years ago, but it's coming to pass....

This game has to be something he can point to and say "See? We tried." Matthews deserves to start. I'd say Nate has a case if Roy continues to slide and Batum can manage to produce for a couple of games. If Batum can outscore Roy three games in a row, the writing will be on the wall. If not... I just think there's no way you can get away with benching a player with that much pride unless it's at least partly his idea.

You didn't even have to finish the sentence... all you had to say was "Does Nate have the balls..." and the answer is "NO".

He might have. But I still this team can come back and right the ship. If he does "this". They won't.

he benched Miller for Blake, for Roy. So...no.

does roy have the balls to bench himself? probably better question.

Roy right now looks like T-Mac playing for the Pistons. It's that bad.

I think a better question would be if Nate has the authority to do it.

If Nate benched Roy he would lose his team all the way IMO

I don't spend a whole lot of time here on the Blazer board, so I am somewhat pleased I wasn't blasted for my comments. However, I'm also somewhat pleased that I am not crazy, and very displeased that it is THAT bad.

The topper is that he just signed a huge contract, too. I used to laugh at all the 'curse' talk, now, well, ok, I just smile. Anymore of this nonsense and I might start to wonder too.

Come on, Blazers!

well, then you're completely foolish. And I say foolish, because I am guessing it's not enough of a personal attack to get edited, whereas stating the truth would be. But, whatever. I know people are upset, so feel the need to go overboard in any criticism. Hey, right now, Roy's playing like my dead grandpa. Only, my dead grandpa is probably better.

What I do know is regardless if he should start every game or not he definitely shouldn't play in tomorrow's game. No point in pushing his knee like that in a back-to-back when it looks like it was bothering him tonight. If he plays tomorrow him and the Blazers just aren't being smart about it and we should all once again question the Blazers medical staff. They need to put Roy on some strict guidelines to help him manage this injury.

In the end this team has lost 4 in a row and I'm sure winning is all that matters to them right now and they'll do whatever it takes. Too bad it'll just cost them more potential W's down the road.

Seriously, what can Roy do right now? He can't cut, his shot is off, is the slowest Blazer on the floor and can't stop his man on defense. He's dominating the ball and making it extremely easy fort he defense to shut the Blazer offense down.

He's simply brutal.

All too true. But he's the face of the franchise... There's a timeframe for this stuff. Right now Roy still thinks he can be the old Roy. He's in denial. After a while that denial will turn to him fooling himself into thinking he can play some other special role for the team. Then after that he'll start facing facts he's lost his game and is embarrassing himself on the floor. That process usually takes a season or two.

I'm hoping he can speed that up by about 82x... :D

...so discouraging...

Emotional topic, not everyone will agree, but as a fan, it doesn't seem like he should be starting or playing 30 min. We were doing better w/o him on the floor.

How does ANY player go 33 min. and not get a single assist? Philly has a .278 win %, guys and S. Hawes had 3 assists in 18 min! So, some may say Roy has lost his step, defense, jump, rebounding, etc. - shouldn't he be a general on the floor and find at least ONE open teammate in 33 min?

I agree that he needs to step back and let Matthews replace him. As hard as this lurch has been for us combined, it's twice as hard on him without a doubt. If you think we're emotional, imagine what's going to go through his head this season. So I'm willing to give him time, but I agree that by the end of the season, he probably won't be starting.

I wrote a huge long post about this a couple weeks ago that nobody read. :D
