I know this article is a few months old (~4.5), but it seems like the new strength (Matthew Krause) and conditioning coach hasn't had any beneficial impact compared to his predecessor (Dana Cavalea)... How hard is it to get guys in the bigs to stretch? I understand freak accidents happen (e.g. Jeter's ankle), but a strained hamstring and a strained groin should have been 100% preventable!

Youkilis was an injury waiting to happen, so I can't blame Cavalea for him, Jeter's was a freak accident from the year before, but perhaps was pushed too hard during rehab, Hafner had rotator cuff inflamation... could've/should've been worked on... Granderson one could argue that he missed so much time as bad luck due to 2 freak accidents, but 2... really? maybe the blame for Granderson falls on the hitting coach for not having him step further away from the plate? or Granderson for not listening...

In any case:
Tex has a strained hamstring...... should have been prevented...
Robertson has a strained groin... should have been prevented...

Hammer, I'm with you. Now part of me wonders if the DL stints are because its the beginning of the year. Either way, these are teachable moments, OK guys you want to stay active, stretch...strengthen and condition. Rinse, repeat ad nauseum.

I get that Tex caught a cleat in the turf. He's a big boy and that's a lot of mass and momentum moving forward to tax a hammy. DRob has been hurt before, slipped down some stairs kicking cardboard boxes, etc. He's got some good legs on him, he needs to take away from this that the way he's built up his legs, the groin tendons are his weakest link. The least popular of stretches too.
