And to add insult to injury the devils won the draft lottery and the flyers somehow moved up from number 14 chance to the 2nd pick. Yeah right. Fuck you Bettman you horses ass finagling for the flyers again
 
Pretty funny. Thankfully there is no McDavid this year, but obviously huge for the Devs and Flyers. Awesome day for Ranger fans.

We may look back on this day and say this is when it all went bad for us. With high picks like that the Devs and Flyers will get a huge boost, especially the Flyers who aren't far off. Meanwhile our window is just about closed with the main core of this group, assuming we lose to Ottawa.

My guess is we'll see a bunch of moves this summer. From Girardi to maybe trying to move Stepan before his NTC kicks in.

Terrible day with this news being the kicker. Our division, which was the best already, is now even better looking forward.
 
^^^^^And there is crux of the Rangers' future. This organization needs premiere talent. They can make
all the trades to better this team, but it is the draft that will always be the primary reason for a
team to improve and win Stanley Cups.
 
I don't disagree, but the "issue" is we are always too good to get top picks. Sure we traded away some 1st round picks, but they were picks in the 20's not the top 5 or even top 10.

We either bottom out, or we won't be the Hawks, Pens, and now the Leafs and Oilers. We are never bad enough to draft the true difference makers. So we have to make due best we can.

Now that doesn't mean we throw away picks in the 20's, we need to keep them and start adding those players, but we are not getting that franchise stud at 22 unless it is the 1% of the time someone that great slips. And at least we have been able to sign guys like Hayes and Vesey to soften the blow. Those are the types of guys we would have gotten in the 20's anyway most likely.

Now the Devs and Flyers can get difference makers, and that hurts us moving forward also, even though there is no OV, Malkin, Sid, or McDavid in this draft class.
 
Yeah definitely a good night. I'm not worried about the injury history with Patrick.
 
Biggest problem for the Devils is this draft doesn't have what they need. A franchise, top talent defenseman. I suppose they could take one of the top centers and then trade Hall at some point for some defensive help.
 
I don't know man, the Devs have zero scoring. Like 1 or 2 threats on O. Sure they need a big time dman as well, won't argue there, but to me they need a big scoring threat more (or at least as much).

So I'm not sure if that is the "issue" for them in this draft. If there is an "issue", and when you have the # 1 pick there is always good talent available, it's there is no transcendent stud this year. No one on the level of the guys I mentioned. They'll get a great player, but they won't get Sid or McDavid or OV or even Malkin I don't think.

Like the Browns in the NFL. They got a very good edge rusher, but there was no Manning or Luck this year. That's how I view the Devs and Flyers situations.

And BTW...the Flyers scare me way more over the next 2 or 3 years. The Devs have 8 holes to fill. They are miles away from being good, let alone very good (although I do trust Shero to get them there), the Flyers are pretty close. Now they add another stud. That team will be real good real soon I think. They concern me way more than the Devs.
 
It'll be interesting to see what happens with Kovalchuk, whether he stays in NJ a few more years or they look to deal him for more youth/picks. They aren't really going anywhere for 3-4y so I'd think the latter would be their thinking.

Im not worried about defense. Rather have that legit top line center with size. Patrick will be that type hopefully. Cory has a bounce back year and it softens the blow of needing that d man. Teams need that 1c and 1d have half the problem solved with this pick.

Pretty nuts the metro which is already stacked will now add the 1-2 picks this year to teams in it.

I'm beyond glad Lou and conte aren't here making these choices. Look at what shero did in Pitt and Cranston in cbj and what they did with last years picks the Devils will be good in 2 years time. Have to be otherwise hall is a goner
 
The Devs will not be good in 2 years time. They may be the furthest away of any team in the NHL right now. Adding the # 1 pick in a year without a transcendent player helps obviously, but they will not be good in 2 years (I assume by good you mean a playoff team that can make a run...not just a team that is maybe in the mix for the lower WC).

The Flyers are absolutely closer than the Devs.
 
Since 97 there are two "busts" taken 1. Stefan way back in 99 and then yakapov. Yeah there are guys sprinkled in who didn't live up to the hype but still quality players. to say there isn't talent in nuts.

I can think of a couple teams that are further then the Devils. Nucks avs yotes vegas just to name a few.

Being good is a playoff team you have to crawl before you walk. Figure your right though and the Devils are bad again next year. Which is a better draft class supposedly they will add yet another quality player. Two years is definitely possible. Yeah I agree the flyers are closer then the Devils
 
Did I write bust or no talent? Don't think I did. I did however write there is no Sid, or OV, or McDavid or Malkin type transcendent stud talent this year. I understand why you are very defensive, but it isn't a good look.

And I disagree. To me the Devs have the least good young talent in the NHL (we'll see about LV), and are maybe the furthest away of any team right now. Worst case they are in that discussion for sure.

Oh, the Devs will be terrible next season. That isn't even open for discussion. Is it possible by the following season they are better...sure. Still don't see them as an upper tier locked in playoff team over the next 2 years at least.

He was obnoxious but a good poster on the ESPN boards but we missed him while Cory Schneider was getting lit up all year and their team was terrible again.

Devils could be good again in 3-4 years particularly if they get lucky in draft lottery next year too.

So you go from Noway they are good two years from now and having the worst youth talent to saying maybe they will be better in two years? Makes sense lol

I'm always floating around. Don't know why I would post about Cory Schinder on a rangers board lol. I'll def post when I see the Devils being discussed for sure.

I did not say no talent...I said no transcendent stud talent...strike one by you.
I said no way (not Norway) they are good in two years if good means a locked in clear playoff team. They will be BETTER in two years, hard not to be and they have the # 1 pick this summer, but still nothing more than maybe a team that is closer to a WC. If that means good to you, then yes they'll be "good" and be one of the teams maybe battling to slip in as a WC two years from now...maybe. I don't consider that good. I consider that improving, which they clearly will over the next 2 or 3 years.

Again, you need to read man and not just see what you want to see...LOL.
 
Pretty sure we had game threads in reg season when we beat the Devs the past couple years and didn't see you.

Most of us are always down for talking hockey but given how horrible NJ has been and also completely unwatchable offensively I get it.

O no you caught my spelling snafu! Can tell your in the right when people pick apart internet spelling. Of course that's what I meant by good. You go from second worst to battling for a playoff spot in two years? That's good lol. You cerntainly disrespect the wild card spot when your team made the playoffs in the wild card spot.

It's funny though I think your hung up on the word good (what I said) and Improving? Really? Splitting hairs no?

That's true about the game day threads no point in "chatting" when the two teams are going in different directions. If they were both bad or good it would be different.
 
And that is why I clarified my point regarding what good meant in my original post. If good means they could maybe be battling for a lower WC as we head down the stretch of the season, yes MAYBE they can be that in two years.

They won't be a legit big threat for at least 3 years I'd say.

And the Rangers got over 100 points this season. I do not see the Devs getting 100 points in two years...no way I don't think. If I were a Devil fan I'd have 3 years in my head for when I want to see this team really be back in the game. Look how long it took Toronto and Edmonton.

No doubt you'll get a very good, maybe even great player, but it won't be THE guy like the guys I mentioned are.

Your definition of good is insane lol. There's good and that's making the playoffs. Then there's great teams and those are the teams that are cup worthy.

Go from 28th to maybe 16 is good. Or as you like to think Improving which I think is the same thing
 
If your definition of good is maybe compete for a WC down the stretch of the season, yes the Devs could maybe be in that position in two years (although I still think 3 years is more realistic). Took the Leafs and Oilers a lot longer than two years though, so that is no given.

The Devs have a long road ahead of them to get back to being a legit threat of a team. Years I'd say. I think that's reality.

If the Devs were a little better as a destination for FA that would accelerate their ascent more, but they are realistically at 3-4y before making noise in the playoffs. You figure they probably have a pick in the 10-15 range next year so that's another pretty good player they'll add. Schneider probably has a good 5 high end years left.

Your all over the place with your thoughts. Your not even doubting that we will get a very good or maybe great player. I get it's not a mcdavid or Matthews but only two teams have them it's not like the entire NHL has 20 year olds putting up 40goals. That's rare type of player. So while it sucks they aren't in the draft this year having a great player like you said is still a huge win.

I'm still confused on what your definition of good is? Your saying that making the playoffs and threatening for a cup is good? But making the playoffs isn't good?

I get there are two types of playoff teams those that are good and then those that are cup contenders but to say a team isn't good because they made the playoffs? That just crazy talk
 
When 16 teams make the playoffs I am not throwing parades because you get in. To me the bottom line on the Devs is we are years away from them being a legit long run threat. That's the way I see it. We can discuss semantics about what is good versus what is a contender. But my opinion still holds.

As for the # 1 pick, it isn't McDavid, or Matthews, or Sid, or OV, or Malkin. Always great to win the lotto, but better to win it when a potential league changer is available. That is not the case this year, even though of course they will get a very good player at worst.
