gets his own thread!!!!!!

kid is a scorer, has to stay put, he's got great poise, which is most important, and speed, strength, both end player... stays healthy? wow

If Duclair doesn't make this team then no teen can ever make this team. Sending him back to juniors would be a colossal waste of a season

Agree. His next step should be the AHL but we have some dumb ass rules in hockey.

Michael del zotto

Al, This kid looks like the Anti-Del zotto. Just from the few preseason games you can see not only that the kid is a scorer but also a terrific playmaker abd he plays fefense. He doesn't look that small on the ice because he isn't. He is currently at 191lbs either 6 foot or hust under and more than enought size to survive in the nhl. This kid is a breat of fresh air and he and nash on the same line would be scary.

I would not rush him. Yes he looks real good so far in preseason, mdz had a great rookie year....I hate the rule of no ahl but he is what, 19....we cant rush him

Sportsnet is reporting Rangers looking to trade contract to add "Tony D" and bring the kid to the garden. The wheels look like they are in motion.

That's the thing, he may be almost ready but he can't play on the 4th line so who does he knock out? I think he could use a little more time to get ready physcially being 19, even though he's outgrown the Q.

Nice to see Klein apparently did zero work during the off-season, DuClair feeds him a perfect pass and Klein whiffs on an open goal. Quick to the rescue Joe Mich opined that Klein wasn't expecting such a perfect pass. No Joe the guy plain sucks - trade the bum already. I'm all for giving Tony D a shot.

I'm with ya, Al..right now we're going to be hearing how he's different than ::insert high expectations / low results prospect:: when in reality no one knows. At only 19 he has plenty of time and he should not be rushed.

What does 'banned user' think? He's been onto Duclair for awhile.

Look to see MSL centering Duclair and Nash either tomorrow or Sat nights.....

The reply would sound something like" Al you stupid idiot dumbazzzz, you would hold back every kid no matter what. No matter what a stone hand D Moore does he gets to keep his job but young kids rot in hell."

How far off am I?

Nailed it, although Dump was talking Duclair for quite a while before any of use heard of him if I recall....

I knew it was a solid pick for a 3rd rounder with his offensive ability, but I didn't think he'd be showing quite this much in his first preseason. Good sign though that he should be good.

He also talked up guys like dawes, immonen, and helimen too. I give him his due but when one of the kids he talks up doesn't pan out (dubi better than Parisi) he quickly disconnects himself to that player.

did i mention that he was not affected in the least about renaldo goin after him, or the slightest bit fazed playing side by side with NHL studs,,,, the kid is going to be a very good player he scored 50 goals in 59 games, has 3 in 4 with the big boys? KEEP HIM

Pasta, its preseason where the kid is probably giving 125% where as vets are probably 75% and teams are not playing all of their top players at the same time. NHL season is a very long one, you of all people should know about the tolls of a regular season on a 19 year old body

My Grandfather once asked a coach of mine "don't you play your 9 best players." The coach responded with "No, I play my 9 oldest." I was 13 in a 13 to 15 baseball league. The point is, why would anyone care how old Duclair is. He has shown he can hang with the big boys. Is he really going to get better being a man amongst boys in Juniors? Duclair has proved enough that he deserves a shot at the big time. The one thing this team has missed for years is scoring. Duclair is a pure scorer. Why would anyone want to send this young man down?

Kinda huge difference between the NHL and the grown men that play an 82 game schedule vs a 19 year old who played junior league. When you say he can hang with the big boys...your basing this over what 3 games?

Al, AV will make the call and if he thinks Duclair can hang with the big boys up here thats good enough for me. And if he doesn't I'll be disappointed but juniors it will be. I have a feeling the kid is staying up though.

Al, he has been a star of the game in every game he has played. What more do you want? If he goes back to Juniors and scores 70 goals in 50 games. What did he really learn. If the AHL was an option, I might have a different opinion. But going to Juniors makes no sense to me at all.

I was 50/50 but the more I think about it, he should stay. I agree with papadoc. He will learn more here than in juniors. If he was eligible for AHL, I would send him down there but he is not so let him stick with the big club. He can learn from MSL and other vets.

yes, i can not argue that point, the vets don't want to get hurt and the kids r tryin to impress... but this kid shows great poise, nothing is affecting him and nothing is impressing him... he belongs!

vs NJ 'defense-minded' Devils, "Tony D" needs to shore up
the defensive side of his game.

I believe he can stay up the first 9 games before AV has to make a decision but I think Tony D should stay up along with Miller & McIlrath. The Rangers would be better off paying for him to go to college to face stiffer competition than sending him back to juniors for another year of domination.

I think Duclair and Miller are locks to stay up. As for Big Mac as much as I want him here the Rangers will not keep him up as a 7th defenseman and instead will keep him developing with major minutes at hartford. I don't think he can come up here until the rangers open up a slot by trading klein.

Domination? he didn't lead the league in anything, or even finish top 5 in scoring. I agree he doesn't have anything to learn in juniors, but "dominate" is not something he really did. Look at what Mantha (120pts in 57gms) and Drouin (108pts in 46gms) did instead.

DuClair was 18 and scored 99 points, Mantha was 20 & Drouin was 21 last year but I guess age is irrelevant to some. I would call that dominating.
