Duel in the Desert 2006

Not a BCS-changing game here, far from it, but there is still a lot at stake for the two teams. Whoever wins this will probably get a bowl game and the loser won't because at 6-6 nothing is guaranteed.I'm not too confident in ASU winning this year. Their strength is rushing the ball and with their two best o-lineman out, their o-line is as bad as the Wildcats' and the UA defense should do a good job on them. The passing game has also bee awful this season, even when everyone is healthy, besides Zach Miller(TE) we don't really have a great reciever. Richardson has been a huge dissapointment even though he'll be great in the return game. It'll take a great effort to put any points on the board at this time.UA is playing great football right now. Only good news for ASU is that UA seems to kill bad teams and ranked teams but struggles against the average teams while ASU gets killed by ranked teams and bad teams but beats up on average teams....usually. The battle for the Territorial Cup, the oldest trophy in college football, is on Saturday. No one else might care but this is one heated rivalry in Arizona. I wish both teams were good like they were that one year in the 70's so that it would mean something...Some history...The rivalry started in 1899. UA leads all time * Arizona: 44 wins * Arizona State: 34 wins * Ties: 1but ASU has had the better football program overall with two Rose Bowls, five Fiesta Bowls, two Holiday Bowls, four Sun Bowls. After 8 years UA is ready to pass them.ASU will win though, we all know that. Can't wait.

I wouldn't say they have better talent, not yet but they will if Koetter stays for another couple years and Stoops keeps recruiting like that. Koetter will be severly outcoached by Stoops...Koetter sucks at recruiting, forgot the rules one game and instead of going for it on 4th down, punted and let the other team win and there always seems to be some sorta thing going on, whether it's someone shooting a guy or the stupid way he handled the QB situation.I'm tired of that ass. But he'll be here for at least 1 more year.

I can't wait for the game. UA has been playing great football this season and Willie Tuitama has really stepped up aswell as Chris Henry. ASU does have the overall better team since Arizona is very young but the way we've been playing lately it should be a great game. If our defense continues to play the way it has been I think we can definetly pull off a 4th win.

He had some type of injury I know...UA's o-line is really young and ASU has an improved D. Dexter Davis and co. really need to pressure him if ASU has any chance. And our safeties are really good, get us some TO's! :drunk:

YES!!!!! 14-0 ASU. First TD on a nice pass to McGaha. 2nd one they went for it on 4th and 8 and Carpenter made a nice pass while getting hit to Jamal Lewis for the TD.

21-7 now. ASU:Zach Miller TD catch, but another o-lineman injured! Damn....UA:Syndric SteptoeASU without the versatile Burgess or receiver Terry Richardson.

21-14 ASU at halftime. UA will start out with the ball in the 3rd and Tuitama will probably return for that. Good 2nd quarter for the pussycats.

ASU beat UA 28-14 and are headed to another bowl game, albeit a pretty crappy Emerald Bowl but still... The only thing I don't want to hear is an excuse about Tuitama not playing for half of the game. ASU had so many injuries this year and there were 7 or more.. possible starters out for the game. Howard, Morant, Richardson, Carnahan, Baloney, Berg, Burgess, we had another o-lineman play hurt and out of position during the game and Torain was really beat up and torched the supposedly great UA run D. Very solid effort by ASU tonight. Torain rushed for 138 yards and even with a slow start to the season in the first couple games he finished the regular season with about 1,068 rush yards, ASU's 19th 1,000 yard rusher. ASU will be better next season too. UA should be proud though. Their football program is getting to be pretty good. Our rivalry games may actually mean something in the near future.
