Blockbuster deal in the works?

The scuttlebutt is Orlando may be on the brink of trading all-world center Dwight Howard.

A slew of teams are interested in taking Howard off the Magic’s hands, including Portland and Houston .

Portland is in position to offer the Magic their two top 10 draft picks — Nos. 6 and 11 — along with a couple of players.

The Rockets also have three top 18 picks — Nos. 14, 16 and 18 — at their disposal.

When I first read that this afternoon, I laughed out loud and thought 'what a bunch of crap'... but now I'm starting to wonder if it might not be a bad persuit. I know most think it would only be a one year rental, but then again once players get to PDX and spend a year they don't often leave of their own volition. Soooooo... all I can say is :

Dwight Howard is not walking through that door, fans. Deron Williams is not walking through that door, and Phil Jackson is not walking through that door. And if you expect them to walk through that door, they're going to be here for a game against us. What we are is young, exciting, hard-working, and we're going to improve. People don't realize that, and as soon as they realize those three guys are not coming through that door, the better this town will be for all of us because there are young guys in that (locker) room playing their asses off. I wish we had $90 million under the salary cap. I wish we could buy the world. We can't; the only thing we can do is work hard, and all the negativity that's in this town sucks. I've been around when Jim Rice was booed. I've been around when Yastrzemski was booed. And it stinks. It makes the greatest town, greatest city in the world, lousy. The only thing that will turn this around is being upbeat and positive like we are in that locker room... and if you think I'm going to succumb to negativity, you're wrong. You've got the wrong guy leading this team

I think there's almost no chance we make a deal for Howard...but if you can get Orlando to agree to one...you take it immediately. One year rental or not, you jump on it and sell him on staying afterwards.
