Have you been oblivious to what is happening with the economy?

I don't really find anything pathetic about this. Strange, sure. Not really pathetic.

its pathetic! go look threw the want adds or go apply at burger king instead of begging for a job online. He could find a job easily. He just won;t work a shitty job.

Fuck people. This economy sucks, and if Dwight can find a job this way more power to him.

I just hope it works out for Dwight, and anyone else looking for work.

wow.. someone having difficulties is of amusement to you? Pathetic

While you seem to have conflicting emotions about people. I agree with the third sentence. It's getting truly brutal out there. I think Shadow Stats might be right about unemployment being closer to 20% then 10%. They no longer count what they call "discouraged workers" folks who have been unemployed I think for either 6 months or a full year. I won't say what I do, but I come in contact with folks fairly regularly who have just been wiped out. Alot of families are supporting one another or things would be far worse. That won't last forever.

I hope Dwight finds a job.

no, fuck odenisgod. everyone else is being sarcastic to make fun of him

I would never make fun of someone for being out of work. Its a dick move, and its basically begging karma to fuck with you. No thanks. I like having a job too much to make fun of someone who doesn't. If he was a lazy SOB that'd be one thing. But clearly he isn't. Cut the guy a break.

I have had a friend living in my living room not paying rent for over a year now because he lost his job. He has found several more over the year, but each one seems to end. He has a degree in communication and willing to do just about anything, but this economy is hard. Right now my friend has been working as an masonry apprentice but there was a problem with the firm that was using him losing their rights to apprentices, hence he has to wait for spots to open at some of the other companies that do this.

DW needs to do exactly what he is doing, look for work wherever he can, and hopefully if he follows all avenues, he will find a good job.

he can get a job he just doesn't want to work a shitty job. there is plenty of fast food places that would hire hm on the spot. a job is a job. But he wont do it, instead he will ask you for your money to read his site.

Hey, if he wants to use his exposure generated from his site to find work, that's just fine. However, I think anyone reading the post would be less inclined to hire him. It is just so much begging for work, other than simply announcing "Hello World, I am looking for new employment opportunities". The fact that he's trying to make me feel bad about his situation in order to obtain a job does not fly with me.

I graduated from school last August and was looking for a job until this March. About a good half a year. It sucked. Living at home was not fun. Not having money was not fun. But now it's good.

Personally, if I had even a bit more expertise, like Jyanes probably has, I'd be starting my own company is this economy. You can hire good people at undervalued salaries and will develop the business enough that you can catch the economy as it turns around.

I would say though....that now that I make a pretty nice salary, I'd be upset if I ever had to take a cut in pay (even switching jobs, I feel that my job history has set my salary baseline at a high beginning mark).

Sounds like you're jealous that he has actual job skills that you lack? :dunno:

Any job is not the same as a decent job. One that pays enough to live on and provides health insurance. At my work, OHSU, I know many people from scientists to nurses who have lost their jobs in the past year and they may be able to get a job flipping burgers for $8 an hour, but that is not sufficient when you have bills and a family to take care of.

A shitty job is not enough for me. If I lost my job right now, I would have to live on my savings until I found a decent job that could support me. A shitty job is an absolute last case resort after you are unable to get a better one. And using every possible resources you have available to you is how you get a better one. That might mean applying to hundreds of jobs, talking with past business partners, looking for jobs from friends and family, and yes, even posting on the internet that you are available.

One thing that nobody has pointed out is that DJ is old. He may have a ton of experience, but that does not mean that people want to hire him. Many companies look at older workers as fixed in their ways and demanding of more compensation, and that makes it very difficult for them to get decent jobs, especially in a down economy when a company looking to save a few pennies can hire a kid right out of school for less. Also, the student is ready to be molded by the company instead of bearing baggage.

I know that you have been making your posts just to be a dick, but a lot of people around Oregon are having a real hard time. Before I got my job, I applied to several hundred jobs and got close a bunch, but in the end I was passed over. When I finally got my job I was very excited even though it pay's 20K less than I made 10 years ago.

On the contrary, a lot of experienced professionals are willing to take a pay cut, and wouldn't need as much training or guidance as recent graduates.

Dude, in this day and age, unemployed folks network (market themselves) via the internet all the time. Jaynes simply happens to have the benefit and platform of a well-visited blogsite from which to perform this activity.

I say more power to him. In fact, I think it's almost pathetic that you think it's pathetic for him to do such.

I wish him the best of luck. I can't stand his articles, but I still hope he finds work.

I agree that many older people will take a pay cut, but that does not mean that they are not still perceived as deserving and possibly expecting more. From the employers standpoint, many expect that workers will not take pay cuts and still be happy, productive workers. So it's this perception I was talking about, not what the older worker will or won't do. Perception drives the hiring process.
