TRAIL BLAZERS SIGN CENTER EARL BARRON
FOR REMAINDER OF SEASON

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Trail Blazers have signed center Earl Barron for the remainder of the season, it was announced today by General Manager Rich Cho.

Barron, 29, was a member of the 2005-06 NBA Champion Miami Heat his rookie season in the league and has played parts of five seasons with Miami (2005-08), the New York Knicks (2009-10), Phoenix Suns (2010-11) and Milwaukee Bucks (2010-11), posting career averages of 5.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 15.1 minutes in 108 games (27 starts).

A University of Memphis product, Barron (7-0, 250) averaged 3.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 14.1 minutes in 19 games (six starts) with Phoenix and Milwaukee this season.

Barron also played parts of five seasons in the NBA Development League, making the D-League All-Star team in 2009-10 with the Iowa Energy.

The Trail Blazers roster now stands at 15 players. Barron will wear jersey No. 40.

Re: Center for the playoffs

Looks like our playoff team roster is set!

He's wearing Kemp's old number? How much does he weigh?

I don't know how much he weighs......... but it says he's got 15 kids!

so he's behind Kemp in that, also. :sigh:

It has been quite some time since we had nobility on the roster!

(Last time was when we had 8 magical games in 2007-8 to marvel and delight in the presences of that other NBA Baron - the great Von Wafer).

Will it be better that winner winner Travis Diener? Only time will tell - but I, for one, am stoked - because the magnificent one is very special - A Baron is special - but is the lowest form of nobility, an Earl on the other hand is above Barons and Viscounts. In Continental Europe - an Earl is a "Count". So he is a Count and a Baron!

Who is the MORON who got rid of Juwan Howard?

I think it was Juwan, when he went ring-shopping with Miami.
Howard agreed to the deal last week, and said he is thrilled to finally get the chance to play in Miami...What Howard doesn't have is a championship ring, which is why he came to Miami.

Which is a bit sad for him, since you'd figure he'd go to a team that needed big man help, and where his 2pt/2rpg and PER of 7 would be appreciated. I mean, the Heat are stocked with Ilgauskas, Joel Anthony, Jamaal Magloire, Dexter Pittman and Dampier at the 4/5 spot next to Iron Man Chris Bosh.

After i just posted i was thinking we may need him to play against Perkins and Bynum, hate them both. Heres some Barron highlights, dudes got a nice touch! Spot the Sergio and watch him drive past perkins.

Charlotte kind of screwed over Sean Marks by releasing him on 3/3, didn't they? Of course, considering the Blazers would likely now have Marks instead of Barron, that's a good thing.

The Daniels signing was a smart move by Philly. Meeks and Turner don't have a chance guarding Wade. I think Daniels will get a lot of minutes just by pestering Wade.

I remember when Daniels was the #4 pick back in the day.

So do I. It was in 1997. Daniels doesn't have a chance at guarding Wade, either.

They didn't get him to guard DWade. They got him to spot Holiday 10-15 mins of rest.

He's got experience on Meeks and Turner. Daniels has always been a solid defender.

That's true. Collins seems more likely to give Meeks and Turner playoff experience, though, over playing a washed-up, yet pesky, Daniels.

I see this as an Earl Barron signing. A spot to fill, and you hope you don't have to use him more than a few minutes in a game, or even a series.

The Portland Trail Blazers place Earl Barron on their Active List and Luke Babbitt on their Inactive List for tonight's game vs. Memphis.
