Second-seeded Santiago Giraldo of Colombia was knocked out of the Ecuador Open on Wednesday with Spain's Albert Montanes winning 7-6 (1), 7-5 to reach the third round of the clay-court tournament.

In another second-round match, No. 8 Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic won over Renzo Olivo of Argentina 7-6 (5), 6-4.
