The Iowa Energy defeated the BayHawks 106-96 at the Erie Insurance Arena in Ere on Saturday night.
The Energy jumped out to the early lead in the first quarter and did not trail the entire game. Iowa led Erie 26-18 after the first quarter.
The Energy outscored the BayHawks 35-24 in the second quarter behind August Gilchrist's 14 of his 16 points coming in the quarter. Iowa led 61-42 heading into the second half.
Erie shut down the Energy in the third quarter, holding them to only 16 points. The BayHawks cut the lead to 77-66 heading into the final quarter.
Erie made a late push, going on a 7-0 run late in the fourth quarter behind Micah Downs and Scott Suggs and trailed Iowa 91-85 with 4:19 to go. Iowa pulled away with free throws and defeated Erie 106-96, improving to 16-8 on the season. The BayHawks fall to 7-17.
Erie was led by Suggs team high 24 points. CJ Leslie had 14 points and 10 boards. Justin Brownlee added 19 and Downs finished the night with 17 points and 9 boards for the BayHawks.
Washington Wizards assignee Glen Rice Jr. had a game high 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Energy. Kalin Lucas finished the night with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Augustus Gilchrist had a double-double off the bench for Iowa as he ended the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in Erie for a 1 pm game.
