Mike (the weasel) Lupica strikes again.
I have some more numbers and facts for him:
His Cards have come up short more often in the post season than they have won over the past decade, and as of now, have won 1 more WS than the Yankees over the past decade - but he likes to note the Yankee post season failures.

The SF Giants, hate to say it but, as of NOW, they too have won 1 more WS than the Yanks over the past decade. over the past decade--> Lupica's Ref point, not mine!
The Redsox have won 2 more WS than the Yanks over the past decade and finished soundly in last place this year.
Sure, of course we want to be in the hunt every year - and the Yankees choose to spend ALOT of money trying...and we've also found out that it doesn't guarantee anything...so what the fuk is HIS problem?
Is it his money? Do you get extra points for winning with a low payroll? What an asswhole!
Only ONE team can win the WS every year....

Lets try basic math.
Cards = 2 WS titles over the last decade.
Giants = 2 WS tiltles over the past decade.
Yanks= 1 WS over the past decade.
The bottom line is winning the WS within the rules and regulations of MLB.
Some teams go about it in their own ways..and some high profile big market sports writers have their own personal vendettas/agendas.
Oh, if you did read the article- you may have noticed that Mike (the weasel) Lupica conveniently failed to mention that the Cards' two leading HR and RBI players (2014) are high priced FREE AGENTS with the Cards knowingly giving one of those a contract while he was coming off a suspension for PEDS.
Mike Lupica = skumbag/hypocrite/Yankee hater.
