Hes a free agent after this year and the cubs landed 4-5 players for him. One of them was rankied i believe in the top 25 in MLB and was one of texas's top prospects. I am not trying to compare apples to oranges, but no impact player like Cano was moved, so its tough to say what he would have got. All i am saying is that garza and peavy moved and got some pretty good returns. They are hardly considered top flight in terms of their position. Cano is. The yankees are between a rock and a hard place here. They may have to choose to overpay him to stay (think 7-8-9 years), or they see him walk away and get nothing in return. I think at some point during the dealine period, the yankees should have realized they were not going to be able to trade out of the mess they are in for 2013, soriano was not enough, and changed course to sell mode vs buy mode. I know its unthinkable for the yankees to do so, but if you look at the state of the farm system, it isnt helping anytime soon. And even some of the low level guys people were excited about are dropping off now too. The yankees really needed to rethink their directly, IMO, to better the furture. Now you have what you have in 2013 and you still have no help on the way for the near future from the farm. Its just not an ideal situation. You could stomach the down years if you knew some hope was on the horizon. Its just bleak rght now, and you look at the free agent class, and you realize it could be bleak for a while.
