OK, we get it, he was good. And yes, it was a tragedy that he (and more so, his daughter and friend) died so senselessly. But didn't we already do the grieving as a nation bit? How often is this going to come up? And do we have to pretend that he was more than a very very good basketball player? Like, do we have to pretend he was some kind of modern saint? Because it's getting tiresome.

But on the other hand, I can just shut the fuck up and let people mourn their hero. So I'll do that now.

How often?

probably every year.

yes i hated kobe when he played against us, but only cause he was amazing.

so few have that MJ killer focus, Kobe was one, Dame has it on occasion and Luka seems to be getting more and more of it. All of them are impressive and a joy to watch.

Westbrook wearing a Lakers (Kobe) jersey on the bench. WTF? I don’t think MJ would’ve worn a Pistons jersey or Bird a Lakers jersey no matter who died.

There are other ways to show respect.

This is continuing the NBA's new policy of allowing players to express themselves on the sidelines during games.

And that is a good thing.

To allow shirts like BLM to be worn by players but not allow them to honor one of the greatest players in the history of the game would be a stange and conflicting message to send.

Kobe was a celebrity and when celebrities die, there's a desire to believe that their celebrity made them more important and special as people. It's understandable, even if that's not how I think.

They shouldn't make me barf when I'm so close to my computer keyboard
