Politics Entire U.S. Senate to go to White House for North Korea briefing

Here are some fun facts about NK and the USA.

We've never tried to negotiate a peace treaty with NK, only an armistice.

An official cease fire has never been signed.

There has never been a time when NK is not under some sort of US sanctions.

The USA was the first to break the terms of the armistice 3 years after signing it when it placed nukes in SK.

NK asked Russia and China for help in developing a nuke program.

They refused.

Our "ally" Pakistan is the one who sold them the Nukes for crazy dummies DIY book.

Good but you left out that N Korea aided Syria in their acquisition of chemical weapons.

Trump isn't going to war with North Korea. But I do expect that they will not put a weapon on a missile that could be a future threat. Resolution time has arrived, can't punt this time.
Trump has properties in South Korea you know, maybe within range of NK artillery.

Sounds like the THAAD system has been finally put in place a day after N Koreas show of force. If this isn't a clear sign that we are ready to make a pre-emptive strike on the Northern peninsula then nothing can happen to cause you to expect it before the first impact.

Increasing sanctions is not going to do a damn thing other than cause N Koreans to die of starvation. You can cut their budget from 100 million to 10 million, they will always reallocate their available funds to their nuclear program. It is inevitable that one day they will accomplish their goal, be it next year, or in 50 years, unless the government is forced to change.

Now there will be a complaint that Congressmen did not get the invite.

>"The USA was the first to break the terms of the armistice 3 years after signing it when it placed nukes in SK". So who is the real aggressor? Looks obvious! Did we not supplement the Pakistanis' with Nukes in the first place?

If Trump wants to go to war, it looks like he's enlisting the Senate's support.

No it doesn't. It sounds like you won't find 1/100 senators who can make sense of what today actually was.

It was a session that Sen. Chris Coons, D-Delaware, called "sobering."

But while senators who spoke with NBC News stressed the seriousness of the threat of an increasingly aggressive North Korea poses, few specifics of the administration's next steps were made publicly available after the meeting.

...

"It appears that President Trump's discussions with President Xi at Mar-a-Lago had some beneficial impact. Time will tell."

Other senators separately echoed the sentiment.

...

Asked about why senators converged at the White House for the briefing, Coons said the seriousness of the threat "requires us to act in a non-partisan way."

"I think it makes the American people safer if the world sees our government acting in a concerted, serious and thoughtful manner rather than taking partisan shots about did we meet in the Senate did we meet in the White House."

Am I the only one who wouldn't be surprised if this is all a front by China? That ultimately they still support the regime but want the world to believe they don't?

How easy would it be for China to help develop N Koreas nuclear program in the dark? Trains frequently go back and forth between the two countries. Also you have the fact that basically everything that happens in N Korea happens in the dark.

Why do so many people claim that China wants denuclearization of N Korea? If they helped grow N Koreas nuclear program as an ally then they would have a similar situation with N Korea what we have with S Korea, and that very much benefits China.

Plus the whole situation with the coal sanctions seems fairly flimsy.

All signs point towards N Korea forcing trumps hand. I don't think he can accomplish what he hopes to with the China sanctions, and not only will he take matters into his own hands, he will probably become spiteful and mess up our trade situation with China in the process, which could have a temporarily disastrous affect on our economy. In the long run I think we would be better off relying less on Chinese manufacturing.
