- The euro fell below $1.20 on Friday, its lowest level in more than four years, on concern Europe's debt crisis is expanding to Hungary and as U.S. stock losses surpassed 2 percent.

Investors shunned riskier assets and bought currencies perceived as safe-havens, such as the yen and Swiss franc, as a government report showed U.S. non-farm payrolls grew at a slower-than-expected rate in May.

Go for Parity yo!

I was thinking of withdrawing a few grand when I was down there and holding it until it recovrered when it was at 1.22. glad I didn't!

This is going to happen eventually in the US as California is going to have to get "bailed out" by the government. We are the P.I.G.!

:ohno:

That reminds of me a joke.

The bigger problem is with the foundational idea that you can have one currency and 21 separate monetary policies, even if you agree to live within a defined collar. For anyone who has ever been to Europe, there is a real cultural conflict between the cultures of the North, who in general take a Weberian approach to life--hard work, thrift, saving--vs. the more Epicurean South.
