Evil corporation figures out fusion

Very cool. Ill be interested to learn more as time go on, what type of dangers exist, how things are stored and stuff like that, but if this could be done safely, what an awesome advance.

Would be a game changer. The idea is that it would be super cheap, so we will see I guess.

Less reliance on fossil fuels, and other things? Yes please. Reportedly clean energy? Yes please.

Doesn't replace acres of pristine environment with solar panels or wind turbines? Yes please.

Doesn't require gutting our economy to implement? Yes please.

Denny, before endorsing this you should check whether the engineers modeled anything to evolve their theory. Because your main argument against climate change is that scientists use models in experiments. So do capitalist economists, but I never mentioned that in the other thread.

Models are fine as long as they're not used to predict things that can't be tested and observed.

And economists and astrologers are often lumped together.

This is exactly what we have been waiting for to finally build those space lasers.

I wouldn't hold my breath here. Someone wanted to issue a press release, and did.

Well they said 10 years. That's a long time to hold your breath.

In a statement, the company, the Pentagon's largest supplier, said it would build and test a compact fusion reactor in less than a year, and build a prototype in five years.

I'm sure the government will find a way to slow them down.

In a roundabout way, the government subsidized this. So they can have space lasers and perpetually flying weaponized bomber jet drones.

So that's...something.

I imagine the layers of bureaucracy and self-interested bureaucrats that will get in the way of progress.

Green energy lobby owns congress.

Not sure how the government will slow this down. Tax the ocean water?

If this is real it is a runaway train, and rightfully so.

And the green energy lobby? They have some influence but nothing compared to the Saudis and big oil

So, what happens if one of these things fail catastrophically?

I'm recalling a conversation from years ago at school, so I could be wrong, but this is what I recall. If a fusion reactor were to catastrophically fail, nothing would happen because a catastrophic failure would actually mean a halting of the chain reaction. I'm sure someone else here will know better.

If all else fails, by executive order. Naturally.

Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

So, it'll be like the best orgasm ever.

Or the worst, depends on how big your lungs are.
