NOT recommending the Nets take him, but it will be interesting to watch where he lands...Florida's Mr. Basketball in 2005, best player to come out of the area since VC, then arrested six times in 26 months, suspected of getting "help" on his college ACT tests, then after after two jail terms, goes to local JC, leads the nation in scoring with 35 ppg, along with 8 rpg, 5 apg, 4 spg, playing guard and forward at 6'10". Now, at 22, declares for the draft.

both him and derrick caracter will go undrafted so no need to waste picks on them...

Good point. But, if he goes undrafted or he's taken in the 2nd round it's not like he's commanding big time money. He knows he's a risk and he knows he's not about to make anything over a mill a year so its not like signing him would be a huge cap hit. I say take a chance. I don't know if you guys remember this guy we took a chance on but his name was Sean Williams. If I remember correctly he proved to be a highflyer who was #2 in the NBA at block per 48min his rookie season and was well worth the risk.
 
Except Sean was a college student who smoked pot, and this guy has been arrested 6 times in just over 2 years; big difference.

Why was he arrested anyway? What did he do?
 
I believe the very first words I posted were "NOT recommending the Nets take him..." and yet the entire thread is about the Nets taking him. I just find it an interesting story.

Caron Butler was arrested FIFTEEN times as a teenager, spent nine months in jail as a CRACK DEALER. His $5,000 tuition for Maine Central Institute was paid by Racine, Wisconsin's biggest crack dealer.

Zach Randolph was arrested three times before he was drafted, on similar charges to those brought against Brumbaugh: gun possession and shoplifting. He too spent time in juvenile detention.

Butler is a model citizen and Randolph is a jerk who has been arrested twice since: on underage drinking and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

As for the Nets even considering him, note this: Thorn lost his job in Chicago partly because he took chances on a couple of bad kids. Yet, he has repeatedly taken risks on players with criminal records here: Jason Kidd (misdemeanor domestic abuse), Marcus Williams (felony theft), Sean Williams (drug use), even the lowly Rodney Buford (multiple drug arrests). Nets no doubt would do with Brumbaugh what they did with all the two Williams--talk to the player, talk to the coach, review his psychological tests.

The worst arrest was for possession of a lot of firearms. He was in a car with several hundred rounds of ammunition, some guns, etc. THAT would give me a lot of pause about taking him. But I can live with arrests for shoplifting at Wal-Mart (I can even condone that!), trespassing and failure to appear.

Troubled kids are not necessarily bad kids.

My guess is that once he gets in an NBA gym against some other prospects, he's going amaze some front office people.

Easily the creepiest reference to Chad Ford I've ever read.

The redemption story is interesting, but I think a common thread following "troubled players" is that they normally need to grow into themselves as NBA players. Translated, that means that by the time these guys reach their full potential, they tend to be past their rookie contracts, often on a new team. I'm not sure they're the best investments coming right out of college...

That is an excellent point. it's part of the risk.
 
Just watched some HS videos of him. Very fluid for a taller player. Supposedly even taller now. I guess people could see Chris Bosh or Andray Blatche in him.

If he is truly motivated, then he could be more than Blatche... but he's been through so much already, will someone really take a chance on him?
