This band was here in Portland for the 'Experience Jimi Hendrix' show. This guy is sick!

From the 3:38 mark on...

Kids nowadays have no idea what good guitar playing is.

I personally know over 100 guitarists who can blow that guy off the stage.

Love Paco. Especially with Al Dimeola and John McLaughlin.

I had the extreme pleasure of being Al's guitar roadie for the western swing of his tour in 1978.

Talk about being blown off the stage!

I figured that clip is overplayed. That must have been a great expereince! Al D. was probably just a kid then.

my favorite is the slowest thing yngwie ever played (intro to icarus dream suite)

My personal favorite, a live version of Sultans of Swing:

The ending rocks. Also really liked his live version of Telegraph Road.

Mark Knopfler was the man. Unfortunate headgear decision, though.

And then there is Joe's imaginary guitar solo, "Watermelon in Easter Hay" by Frank Zappa.

Exquisite melodic improvisation over a 9/8 beat.

Turn it up.

I really like Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower... it has some great guitar parts. And the song "Hey" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers has a mind blowing solo.

Who Says A Funk Band Cant Play Rock'n'Roll?

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain - Super Stupid - 1971

As a child of the punk era, I'm naturally suspicious of guitar solos (unless they're followed by "you're my guitar hero!":

or maybe "Rock me Joe")

...but I was listening to this today and it's got a pretty epic one:

And here's one of my all-time faves:

One of the most melodic guitar soloists that gets little love.....the solo in this is stunning ..tone for days...Jim Messina....the solo is actually the second part...Pathway to Glory...Messina is as tasteful as it gets...was a huge influence on guys like Walter Becker and Mark Knopfler

ASM700613-01-03-FP.jpg All of you that posted "old school" should be rewarded! I'm liken SRV and Allman Brothers lately. People don't realize how great Dicky Betts was! For pure entertainment value I like Little Feat's " Time loves a hero" album.

I'm a huge fan of both those bands....Waiting for Columbus by Little Feat with Tower of Power horns backing them up was a masterpiece....Tied to the Whipping Post is another great one...

Good music such as this just does not bore the savvy rock fan!
I invited two of good buds for a weekend in Seaside Heights NJ and we got toasted and attempted to play pool in a bar. The place had a multiple speaker system- juke box that featured Allman Bros, SRV and Little Feat! After we consumed that music a skin head type dude played metal. I enjoyed it but did not appreciate it! allman-brothers-band-1969 .jpg

Here's the second part...I always think of them as the same piece

Any LIVE recording of SRV! Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland-The consummate Wah Wah guitar album!
