I gave Metallica a chance. I made it through 2 tracks on Ride the Lightning before I had to quit. I made through 3 on Death Magnetic before throwing in the towel. They are unlistenable. James Hetfield sounds like he's constipated. Lars Ulrich is a dipshit. Their bassist is a caveman. They suck.

Both Megadeth and Metallica are excellent bands. Metallica has had better commercial success, but Megadeth has been impressive as well. But IMO, Metallica is better because of their early work, which is incredible.

No, I know metal perfectly. Metallica is just the most overrated piece of shit band in the history of the universe. They have nothing. They are at their absolute worst when they attempt to be thrashy, at least the slower songs work somewhat better (though the vast majority of those are still terrible).

Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera (though not my cup of tea), Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, and Judas Priest are all respectable, quality metal bands that kick Metallica's fat talentless asses.

Generic? They fucking invented that way of playing!!! Trivium is generic!!!!! I didnt realize you have A.D.D. and songs can be no longer than 2:30. They play 6 minutes and none of it is repetitive yet at the same time isnt forced...classics.

Metallica's shit is practically indistinguishable from track to track. If they 'invented' that way of playing, then it shows, because its crude as hell. About the length, Metallica pretty much tries to make epics with every fucking song, and 99% of the time they fall flat.
