NEW YORK -- The NBA announced today that the first-ever NBA Awards Show will take place in New York City on Monday, June 26, 2017. Televised exclusively by TNT, the show will feature current and former NBA players, coaches and celebrities.

The star-studded event will recognize NBA players, teams, coaches and executives for their accomplishments and performances from the 2016-17 NBA season. The show will feature the announcements of the Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, Kia NBA Sixth Man Award, Kia NBA Most Improved Player and Coach of the Year.

While in previous years these awards were announced separately throughout the postseason, this marks the first time that all recipients will be honored on the same night. Additional awards will be announced at a later date as well as the venue, the host and the list of presenters.

Entering its 33rd consecutive year of NBA coverage, Turner Sports will showcase an expanded 64-game schedule on TNT throughout the 2016-17 NBA regular season. In addition to being the exclusive home of NBA All-Star 2017 in New Orleans and the 66th NBA All-Star Game, the network will televise more than 40 NBA Playoff games.

Since we can't get the All Star game maybe the NBA will give us the award show.

Hahahahahahaha!

The only purpose is to make money. It's as dumb as advertising on the uniforms, or the plastic ball Stern tried to force on the league.

Back in the good old days, there was one awards show, the Oscars, and a new pretender, the Emmies. Each had a tenth as many categories as today, so it was a very short show. Everything sucks now.

Oh yeah, and Miss America. The swimming suit competition was the main part of the show. They didn't even have to make stupid little speeches, just show their figures. David Stern ruined America.

And the nominees for most valuable player are...

Let's hope the audience is as rowdy as at the draft show. The only time they will get silent is to listen to trades after trophies are handed out, like when LeBron trades his MVP to Faried for Faried's Most Inspirational.

Fans probably won't be allowed to attend

the category of "best tag team" might not go over too great....

For best actor lmao

I'd watch this show. I think those disparaging the idea lack imagination--you could have Chuck, Ernie, the Jet and the rest presenting, and hopefully playing up to a live audience. MSG or Philly fans would be great, but even Portland would be pretty funny because it's got a large, knowledgeable and opinionated base with a well-deserved soccer mom rep, and of course Portland would be extremely unrepresented in the results (adding to the spectacle).

I think a lot of NBA players would attend just because the visibility may help sell shoes, and it would be a place for recent draft picks to get some air time.

It's got potential to be much more entertaining than All Star weekend.
