Mardy Fish defeated 17th-seeded Richard Gasquet, 6-4, 6-3, in the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. If Fish, who is ranked a career-best 15th, wins two more rounds, he will overtake Andy Roddick atop the United States’ men’s rankings. Roddick lost his opening match and is expected to drop from 8th to about 15th in the next rankings, the lowest he has been since 2002.
