For the fans holding back, like me: Will a win over Miami finally sell you?

I'll be fucking pissed if we go out in the first round. I'd consider the season a failure.

It signals that the team isn't still ready to make that next step. That's the goal, just pop that playoff first round cherry.

It would be a disappointing ending to a terrific season, but I certainly wouldn't be angry about it. What a playoff loss like that would do, however, is demonstrate what we need to obtain to take that next step. Remember, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year. I'm amazed at what this group has accomplished; almost nothing can take the bloom off of that rose.

Beating the Thunder at home will be much more impressive.

I want that more than beating "Miami". We won't be facing Miami unless we make it to the finals. OKC could be a WCF or second round opponent. That needs to be a win!

It would be so much better if they were still the Supes, but I kind of like our rivalry with OKC. We're two small towns with only one team, and a fan base that's pretty intense.

To answer the OP, no, beating MIA will not make me believe (more than I currently do) that we're a contender. And losing to them won't make me less of a believer. Didn't we beat them at home last season? We certainly weren't a contender last season, so why would beating them this season make me think we're a contender?

I do think the better barometer will be how we fare against OKC. But even that won't be an indicator for how our season will end. I'm far more interested in trends, than single games. So far I've been pleased with the trend of winning games, but I've been less pleased with how we've performed in those wins.

Wins like last night's may happen throughout the course of the season, but I don't see us winning those sorts of games in the Playoffs. LAC had 14 more shot attempts than we did! That will not lead to a win in the post-season. Our opponent has shot a better FG% than us in every game since the PHI explosion, and our 3-point shooting has dipped. Wes' early-season shooting percentages were unsustainable - after his scorching Nov, he's now shooting below his career averages for the month of Dec.

I'd be really upset. We've already been to the playoffs several times, one and done. We're hungry now...we need to do this RIGHT NOW.

Having the best record in the NBA heading into the new year should already have you sold!

I enjoy the Blazers regardless of their record. Them winning is obviously more enjoyable, but if it got to the point where the team was bringing negativity into my life, I'd probably just stop caring about them.

For me, sports is a diversion, and I like my diversions to be positive.

When are you guys going to just sit back and enjoy this ride? Quit waiting to win the next "big game" to justify a great run!

If you can't enjoy what's going on right now, somethings wrong with you.

So if you don't get that, will you become a Heat fan? Good riddance.

Ummmmmmm ...... wtf are you talking about? I guess Im going to assume you misunderstood me and/or know nothing about me. I have been a Blazers fan for over 30 years so Im pretty sure that if I havent left by now it isnt going to happen.

Im not holding back from supporting this team. Im enjoying it. I was simply saying what I WANT to see if full effort in those games. Go back and read my post again. I never even said anything about leaving or anything like that so I have no idea where that came from. Im sorry if expecting full effort against other elite teams is too much.

There is a difference between "believing" and "enjoying".

You can enjoy watching your team win even if you consider them underdogs! There is too much water under the bridge for me to "believe" in this team...but I will enjoy each win as it comes.

Bingo. My feelings exactly.

Exactly. It's almost like some people want to enjoy playoff success in December. It's December. It's the regular season. The team is having a successful regular season, so far. I'm have a great time as a fan, right now. WTF is with worrying about the playoffs? Right now, I'm sold on the regular season and have hopes for the playoffs.

I wonder how many people here read the last page of a book before deciding if they want to read it all the way through?

I google movie plots before watching.

I'm not sure what you mean by holding back. Even if they lose both the Miami and OKC games there is still so much to like about this team. This years configuration of the Blazers have my attention, my support and my love. Wins or loses against Miami and OKC isn't going to change that.

OMFG. I absolutely detest movie trailers that show every plot twist in the entire movie, in the advertisement for the movie. Pisses me off like nothing else.

Can't stand the posters that discount what we're doing now because of what they guess we'll do in the playoffs . Can't stand the guy who is predicting injuries and saying we're mediocre. What a sad little man.

Its not discounting everything. Its great to watch the team and they are exciting, but the only measure of success is playoff success. People are getting a little big for their britches. Its great to be happy and shit, but when we have people thinking about finals matchups and crap like that right now, its getting a little ahead of ourselves.

If there's anything I've learned in being a Blazers fan its to stay humble until you win the Larry O'Brien. Big cockiness only leads to big butthurt later.

We hold back until we get over that hump. The goal isn't "have the best record in the league 30 games in". Its to complete the season and get past the first round.

"Its a process".

Kingspeed that was an awesome post u made in this thread!

Lol I see what u did there my friend!

While I'm drinking the kool-aid of this team, it hasn't escaped my notice that were winning a lot of close games. We could easily have 10 loses right now. My thinking is that those close games have a way of evening out over the course of a season. When the season started I though no more than 46 wins. Now, I can see up to 52. So while I think we're a good team, I don't think we're an elite team yet. A win over Miami would be huge but it doesn't make or break us, IMHO.

Just some food for thought. If we had lost those other five games you we could have, the team's record would be 19-10. That would be good enough for third in the west and fifth in the league. Still nothing to sneeze at, imo.

Go Blazers

I've tried to say this very thing three times, but wasn't able. You encapsulated my thoughts perfectly.

It's probably because it doesn't make sense as a real fan of the Blazers. Things we don't believe in are referred to as fantasy. While we can enjoy something we don't believe in, you must also accept that the Blazers 24-5 record is a fantasy. Can you be a "fan" of the Hobbit movies? Sure. Does calling yourself a real Blazers fan while not believing in the Blazers (a real team experiencing real success) make sense to y'all? What is the point in calling them "your team" when you don't believe in them? What's the connection?

Hard to take anything you say seriously after your posts about Tony Parker and Chris Paul.

You are in a manic state right now, IMO. I hope you are ok.

I've been concerned about your brain cancer affecting your posts... Now I guess I have my answer.

Seriously, though... concern-trolling another guy's health issue? Kinda low.

Oh heavens no. I am sincere. I have sent IMs as well to Eric.

As for me, the drugs and herbs have way more to do with my posts than the tumor
