Just thought I'd share this latest info about the A-Rod situation. Its pretty interesting.

As per today's Daily news........................

A-Rod's mission is to get himself to the safe haven that will protect him from losing any of his money as a result from being suspended by baseball - and that place is the so-called "UNABLE TO PERFORM" list in which he and baseball doctors determine whether the severity of his hip condition is such that it precludes him from being able to perform. This is what happened with the Orioles surly slugger Albert Belle in 2001 when a similar hip injury forced him out of the game and he collected the remaining $39 million on his five year $60 million contract, with the O's recovering $23 million of that from the insurance company.
If A-Rod is suspended while ON the disabled list, he does not get paid. however there is an appeals process that could stretch things out.

Just thought I'd share.

agreed... unfortunately, I think A-Rod is done... I just don't think he has it in him any more... and I have been a big supporter of his... really disappointed in him

He should follow Kovalchuk's lead and get his terrible contract the hell out of here.

I'm pissed at Kovalchuck... as a Devils fan, I'm pissed... he left us after free agency started... nothing we can do about it now... it just sucks...

Even worse that they lost what's most likely going to amount to a lottery pick when they signed him in the first place.
 
I am still trying to figure out the money issue. If he doesn't play again for the Yankees does he count towards the payroll and luxury tax? That would save the Yanks big time.
 
If he was to be declared medically unfit to continue playing insurance would be picking up the remainder of his contract. At that point I don't think he would be included in the Yankees finances any longer.

I get that if he is declared medically unfit to play, the insurance would pay, but how does that affect the cap? I don't know, but I would think it would still count towards the cap even if the Yankees aren't responsible to pay it. I could be wrong though...

If he's declared medically unfit and retires he goes off the Yankee books. Insurance picks up his payments and it's so long Arod. That's why it's being reported that this is what the Yankees are praying for. Some even think the Yankees and Arod are setting up this scenario since it's likely a suspension is coming down.

gotcha... I haven't seen or heard anywhere that A-Rod was contemplating retirement... it doesn't surprise me that the Yankees want it... its nothing but good news for them if that is the case... I just don't know if A-Rod would want that...

Nor have I but I hope he does. I mean hell, Barry Bonds didn't even get this much attention.

Bonds hated the media and the media hated him... I think in A-Rod's twisted mind, he still loves the attention, and by association, the media...
 
In the end, which we are close to I feel, was the ten years of Arod worth it. Or would be have been better off with the Charlie Hayes, Scott B. type and used the money elsewhere to stay young. Hal and the Yankees deserve all this, however it is painful to watch.

You can't help but wonder what the Boss would be doing with all this mess if he were still alive.
