What do you think of him as a darkhorse for the election? I feel he has a great chance if he decides to run. I feel he is the only real Republican running, and would have the support of the GOP. In the latest Rasmussen report, he beat Hilary and trailed to Obama by a little bit. In the USA/Gallup, he beat Romney and is in third behind Rudy and McCain. All of this, and he hasn't even said if he is going to run or not. Thompson issues-http://www.issues2000.org/Senate/Fred_Thompson.htmBio-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_ThompsonYoutube videos-

It would be great if the election was about finding the best guy who fit all the party's best interests but it's all about who can raise $100 million dollars. I just don't see it....the guy freaks me out to be honest. Looks like a classic ***hole Republican.

He'll be able to raise money easily. He's an actor, he's got lots of support, he's charismatic, a great speaker, and an easy guy to follow. And since when does a candidates looks determine whether or not they would make a good president?

fu*kin conservatives these days.Good Ole farmin hick! Gotta be traditional folks!"F*ck Black People!"

I like him on law and Order, other than that I know nothing about him.

The only way being an actor helps you in politics is if your a Democrat. The fact is, he's not even campaigning for money right now and nobody even knows who the hell Fred Thompson is on the national stage.

Reagan was an actor and I think that helped him out pretty well. it definatly helps with public speaking. it also helps with name recognition, which is really what it is all about; because if the voters don't know who you are they aren't going to vote for you.

Take a college poll and I'll bet only 3% know who Thompson is.

The two most successful actor politicians in history were republicans. And the ONLY reason Arnold got elected was a lot of people were like "that'll be sweet to have the terminator as our governor"

Schwarzenegger and Reagan were so big, Hollywood didn't help them, it was the fans and money and people of influence they met along the way. Being an actor doesn't help Fred Thompson at all, because nobody knows who Fred Thompson is.

Seem to be rather conservative sources, may want to try something a bit more neutral if you'd like to start a decent conversation.

1. Besides Fox, Gallup and Rasmussen are totally neutral.2. Why the heck would it matter if it's a conservative source if I'm comparing Thompson to the rest of the GOP?

Two weeks later, he has not made any campaign money and nobody still knows who he is.

Yeah, he still hasn't decided if he is going to run or not. He doesn't have much time left though.Every time I watch him speak I want him to run more and more. Very powerful.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/04/11/tho...ncer/index.htmlCNN) -- Fred Thompson, the former Republican senator from Tennessee who has said he might enter the 2008 presidential race, has been diagnosed with a treatable form of lymphoma, according to a source close to him.Lymphoma is a type of cancer involving cells of the immune system. The source is familiar with Thompson's deliberations on whether to jump into the 2008 presidential race and told CNN's Candy Crowley that Thompson has been discussing his illness privately "for some time."Asked what this might do to a possible presidential bid, the source said, "This disclosure should indicate to everyone interested in seeing Fred enter the race for the White House how serious he is taking the next steps toward launching a campaign."Thompson has played the role as gruff district attorney Arthur Branch on NBC's three "Law & Order" series.Thompson was the minority counsel to the Senate Watergate Committee before being elected to the Senate in 1994 to fill the unexpired term of Vice President Al Gore. After chairing the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, he stepped down in 2003 to resume his acting career._________________Hmm.. Hopefully this doesn't hinder his decision to run.

He had no shot at the Presidency....come on Captain, just admit it. Tommy Thompson has more of a shot.

How so??He gets the votes of the far right, he's the only true Conservative who actually has some name recognition, and he is already scoring in 3rd-4th in most polls, and he hasn't even said anything about running yet.He has a great shot once more people find out about Guliani's social stances, and more people find out about him.Romney has no shot since the religious right won't vote for a Mormon, and John McCain is basically shooting himself in the foot lately.

You don't seem to understand the money issue at all when it comes to elections Captain. Mitt Romney's raised over $40 million dollars and has all the Republican money/people on his side, Romney is going to get the Republican nomination....Fred Thompson might be the best true republican but he doesn't have a shot because Romney's dominating.

Romney is dominating? That's why he is finishing 4th-5th in pretty much every poll out there? Romney has no chance in the world like I said, simply because he's a Mormon as sad as that is.Right now, most Republicans are lost on who to support. Guliani and Romney are both RINO's, and McCain is wavering in that area as well. They are all Liberal on Gun Control, something that won't float well in winning the south. Rudy is also Liberal on abortion and gay marriage, something that will destroy him with the Religious right once the word is spread. Romney also has the baggage of being known as a flip-flopper. McCain IMO has the best shot in winning the primaries as it is right now, but he's killing himself lately with his actions. If a candidate declares who Republicans can back, there will be no problem with that person raising money.

He responds about the money aspect sometime in there. Click upper right hand corner. The one regarding his lymphoma is a good one too. I want to see him in a debate. I highly doubt he'd lose.http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,265269...s/youdecide2008

captain, you know how rare it is for a guy who has made no cash and not announced this late to run? He's getting like 10% in republican polls right now, that is not going to cut it. There are still a heck of a lot of people who haven't heard of him. Money plays a huge roll in elections. In the diego hotline poll recently, FORTY SEVEN PERCENT said they hadn't heard of Fred Thompson and FIFTY THREE PERCENT hadn't heard of him in the recent FOX News poll.
