So Ike missed some layups in his three halves of being the backup PF. So what?

Let's look at an updated comparison of stats that I, personally, care about from my backup power forward.

Frye, in 352 minutes:
Free throws attempted: 21
Offensive rebounds: 23
Blocks: 6

Ike, in 51 minutes:
Free throws attempted: 16
Offensive rebounds: 9
Blocks: 2

Frye is not helping this team. Diogu was good enough in practice to get a chance, and then he got 1.5 games to knock rust off? Ridiculous.

Ike's no great shakes, but he gets to the line and gets the team extra possessions. He deserves to get more playing time than he is, especially if it comes at the expense of Channing Frye.

I agree Ed.

Frye has been horrible this year....

Agreed. Ike brings that element of toughness that we don't have outside of Joel. He's a little bit of a black hole, but at least he's not afraid to bang down low. I hope he gets some more burn.

I have every reason to believe that Frye is gone at the deadline and if not he's certainly renounced in the off-season (there's no fucking way KP lets his 12 million dollar caphold submarine this franchise's FA flexibility).

I hope Ike gets more chances on the court, because I think he actually brings something to the table this team can use.

I was sad to see Frye back so soon. I was hoping Nate would give Ike a few more games to see what we have. I liked what I saw from Ike in the short time he got. He did miss some layups but he seems like he could be the rebounder banger backup PF I think this team needs. Like you said he hasn't played much with the Pacers and with us and of coarse has some rust. It isn't like Frye is doing anything to take the time away from Ike IMO.

I agree. Missing inside shots + offensive rebounds > Missing outside shots + no rebounds

And I think Diogu will convert those layups once he has a bit more game time under his belt. And while Diogu is no great defensive presence, I would rather have him on defense than Frye. Diogu is tougher and works harder on defense than Frye, even if he's undersized.

Well, perhaps the blazers saw what they needed to see from Ike - that is, they were just verifying that he could man the position if they trade Frye.

We like Ike.

We decry Frye.

I've been on the Frye sucks bandwagon since the very first game of the season.

I agree also. We need a banger. I like Frye... I do.. just not a great fit... and you could really see it last night. Our second unit has enough offense... we don't need a jumpshot shooting PF who isn't a great rebounder.

Ike is closer to the mold of the "perfect PF backup" that guys like Brandon Bass, Leon Powe, Paul Millsap and Carl Landry have created. I like Frye as a person. I think he's intelligent and I appreciate that he likes the city. His skills can be useful for the pick-and-pop game. But with his height, he needs to get more rebounds. It's frustrating that he doesn't I see him as a clear candidate in a trade, because he has showed some good potential as far back as his rookie year.

I agree completely. Frye has been so bad it's almost been comical. I think Nate needs to play Ike to see if it will improve his confidence and therefore his game.

Both stink so far, IMO.

I'd give all the backup PF minutes to TO, Joel, and Batum.

I could live with Outlaw getting all the minutes at backup power forward.

When Webster comes back, I could, too. I'd still prefer, in the mean time, to see Diogu rather than more Frye.

Time for Ike to get some minutes. Frye hasn't given us anything.

Trout is no better, thats for sure.... God, cant wait for Web's to come back full strength.

I'd rather see Outlaw or Diogu @ backup 4 than Frye, and it pains me to say it. Channing is probably the most "Portland" guy on the team. Too bad he is a 6'11" dude who is incapable of doing anything other than jacking up 20 footers.

I like the aggressive play from Ike.

Updated after the Celtics game...

Frye, in 357 minutes:
Free throws attempted: 21
Offensive rebounds: 23
Blocks: 6

Ike, in 57 minutes:
Free throws attempted: 18
Offensive rebounds: 10
Blocks: 2

ike was a nice pickup in the bayless deal imo, we should be playing him a lil more, especially if frye is done.

For their careers, Shavlik Randolph is better at 2 out of those 3 things, and a better passer, better defender, etc.

I'm just saying...

Ike did what we're looking for last night. He had a big hustle play for an offensive board, he banged down low, he got to the FT line, and he even hit a 15-footer.
We don't need our backup PF to play 15-20 mins a game, but what Ike provided in his short stint was a positive. I'd like to see him continue to get the mins with LMA taking a breather.

You know if we mixed the two of them, we would have a pretty good power forward. Plus, the name mixed of Fry and Ike could be Fryke (pronounced Freeky) which would be ultimately, cool!
