I had been with dish for 8 years and had to switch over to directv this past November. Dish lost there contract with the NBA and I wasn't NOT going to have the LeaguePass so I switched. Had no problems until we got back from the beach last night. Both DVR's were down. I called for service and they said the earliest they could get to me is JUNE 6TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What?!?!?!?!?!? I have 2 kids under 8 and a wife that follows a few shows religiously! That and the fact that I can now NOT watch the NBA playoffs! If anybody on here might know somebody who could help me out, holler! I promise I will stop calling you names and tell "yo mama's so fat" jokes!

Damn dude that sucks. You guys sure have a lot of problems over in the west with cable and cable companies. I really can't complain here. I mean I've had to wait a few days once for a repair, but never the amount your talking about... watch the games online? go to a friends? convince the blazers to make it farther into the playoffs next year so you dont have to worry about this type of thing?

Both were down? What are the odds of that? Did you do all the "reset" mumbojumbo?

If both of your DVRs are down, it sounds like your dish may have an issue.

The good news: I just left direct tv to go to comcast. Given the way my luck operates, this means direct tv will soon get the contract issue with comcast resolved so that other direct tv people will have more access to Blazer games.

Did you try some trouble shooting? My dvr had issues a couple of times and I was generally able to solve it by unplugging the unit (at least a minute, maybe two) and doing a re-boot. Don't just turn it off, it's got to be unplugged and for a little while. One time I had to hit and hold the red button on the front of the unit and that solved the problem. Try that, if unplugging doesn't work.

The bad news: if wind or something knocked your dish off kilter, you'll probably need a repair guy to get the thing aimed right.

Maybe post what the issue you're having with your DVRs is? I haven't had DirecTV for several years, but I used to troubleshoot stuff myself and maybe one of us on the board could help you fix it yourself...

Ed O.

It has the Searching for Signal screen come up. It never goes away. I have powered down both DVR's and hit the red reset button, but nothing. It always comes back to Searching for Signal.

Sounds like your dish either got moved out of whack or something might've obtructed the signal. Did a tree grow a bunch or a neighbor add a level to their house?

edit: obviously, the tree didn't grow a bunch while you were at the beach, but it might've grown just enough to screw up the signal past the point of no return.

If you're getting the same error message on both boxes, it's almost certain that the problem lies with the dish. Check to see if it has been bumped, unhook and clean all the cable connections at the dish, and make sure that there is no obstruction inside the casing of the (if you'll forgive the technical jargon) receiver thingy. I had a friend who had a spider lay eggs inside that casing, and it affected his signal. He took it apart and cleaned it, and it worked just fine...

Foliage on a tree that would not have been there over the winter might now become an issue.

Check connection to lnb on antenna inside cone.

Check wire where wire enters house.

Looks like it's time to get Cable! Call up Comcast and see if they can get there before June 6th!

god forbid your family wont be able to record their favorite shows for a few weeks

Dude...I want to go Postal at Time Warner Cable right now...I have had 5 of thier boxes break on me within two years, 2 of which were within the last week! On top of that the first box that broke this week took a shit with 2 min left in the 3rd quarter of game 1 of the WCF OF A tivoed game!!!! We had to turn opn the shitty TV with 2 min left in the 4th and the Lakers down by 4!

So the new box it partially malfunctioning...but here is their kicker...I got their "newest model" box this last time and it has LESS control and options than their older box! Also the box takes longer to respond to any command from the remote! FUCK TIME WARNER!!! I called those pieces of shit and have them coming tomorrow to my house to give me an older model box...I can only pray that it works.

I swear to god their company is run buy a bunch on monkeys throwing darts to make decisions! UGH!!!

Sorry if I want to catch the NBA playoffs! We did just get back from the beach though.

HCP, may I ask why you chose DirectTV over Comcast? You work for Blazer Broadcasting, right? Wouldn't it have made more sense to go with them?

I have Comcast in both Portland and Denver, and while there have been times I've been frustrated with them, they're pretty responsive.

Best of luck dealing with angry kids.

So is at the old house or the new house?

barfo

This is the #1 reason why I like having Comcast. I never ever ever ever have any tech issues.

HCP,
Your daughter cant even finish the ABC's, so my guess is that this is a user error because brains obviously dont run in the family. :)

have the moron tech over here...evidently he says hdmi cable are too good for their boxes and should go to a component cable...are u fucking kidding me?!?! The make a box with an hdmi imput that they already know doesnt work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What they said.

Searching for signal means the dish isn't getting the signal from the satellite or the cabling from the dish to the boxes is not connected somewhere along the way.

If your dish is exposed to the wind, it can be knocked off line.

If there's something like leaves or bird crap on the dish, it can block the signal.

So 2 guys finally came out today to fix my dish. After 2 hours, they came to the conclusion that they could not get a clear signal on my property. SO I called tonight to cancel my account and this bitch said that I have to pay a $375.00 early termination fee! I HAVE TO PAY!!!!!!!!! As if it's MY fault they can't put a dish on my property. I was on the phone with them for the last hour going round and round with em trying to figure out how I was liable for them not being able to provide a service that I'm paying for. The crazy thing is the guys actually took the fucking dish. So I either have to pay or have them send out ANOTHER guy to see why they can't fix it! As if this cat knows more then the 2 cock gobblers that were here today! Wish somebody on here knew somebody at Direct that could help me out!

How did it go from working to not being able to get a signal? I think they're fucking with you man!

I know a girls whos dad is the retired ex-VP...yeah, I need to marry that girl

HCP, in every organization there is someone who can wipe all this away. You just have to keep asking to speak to someone's boss.

I had a similar problem with Comcast and transferring my mother's phone number. She moved 1/4 mile and they wanted to give her a new phone number, replacing the one she had for 29 years. I spent a lot of time getting Heismaned by customer service person after customer service person. Finally, I got a VP at Comcast who decided it was silly to take my mother's phone number away and got it done with a single phone call.

Make sure to tell the entire story of everything you've been through. How it was working fine, then it wasn't working. How you have received crap customer service throughout. How those morons took your dish against your wishes. How you're being held hostage for $375.00. If you were unable to get service, they shouldn't have started your contract to begin with.

I know it's pulling rank, but you know Dick Vardanaga. He certainly knows someone that knows someone with whom the Blazers are negotiating over at DirectTV. THAT person can get your problem solved. The last thing they want is another roadblock to a deal. It's a small issue, but it's not worth fighting over for them.

Best of luck.

The Trail Blazers aren't negotiating with DirectTV/Dish. Comcast/CSN is.

HCP,
Just get Comcast. Problem solved. :)

Never thought I'd type this, but I just signed with the "Dark Side". Comcast will be here on Wednesday to hook me up. I guess now my wife can see me at work.
