Then you all better pray that Stanford keeps on winning, and Arizona prior to Oregon's game against them except when playing Stanford. It wouldn't be too bad for Oregon to let Auburn keep that target on their backs if they could maintain #2. The Ducks might have a bit of a chip on their shoulder if they believe they're getting slighted.
Let's look at SoS for teams with no losses or one loss, with games that could knock another team from the chase:
1. Auburn - The rest of their schedule is weak until Alabama the last game. Potential conference championship game. Beat Mississippi State, South Carolina, Arkansas, and LSU. Knockout game with Alabama. Potential threat.
2. Oregon - Plays USC, Cal, and Arizona. No conference championship game. Beat Stanford. Knockout game with Arizona.
3. Boise State - Plays Nevada, but the rest of their schedule is going drag them down. No conference championship game. Beat Virginia Tech. Knockout game with Nevada. Not a threat.
4. TCU - Plays Utah. Their other three games are also going to drag them down. No conference championship game. Beat Baylor. Knockout game with Utah. Not a threat.
5. Michigan State - Plays Iowa. The other three games, again, are going to drag them down. No conference championship game. Beat Wisconsin. Not much of a threat.
6. Missouri - Plays Nebraska and Kansas State. Potential conference championship game. Beat Oklahoma. Knockout game with Nebraska. Potential threat.
7. Alabama - Plays LSU, Mississippi State, and Auburn. Potential conference championship game. Beat Arkansas and Florida. Knockout game with Auburn and LSU. Potential threat.
8. Utah - Plays TCU. Their other four games will drag them down. No conference championship. Has beaten nobody. Knockout game with TCU. Not a threat.
9. Oklahoma - Plays Baylor and Oklahoma State. Potential conference championship game. Beat Florida State. Knockout game with Oklahoma State. Potential threat.
10. Wisconsin - Plays nobody else that will help them enough to start leapfrogging teams. No conference championship game. Beat Ohio State. Not much of a threat.
11. Ohio State - Plays Iowa. No conference championship game. Beat Miami. Not much of a threat.
12. LSU - Plays Alabama and Arkansas. Potential conference championship game. Beat Mississippi State and Florida. Knockout game with Alabama. Potential threat.
13. Stanford - Plays Arizona and Cal. No conference championship game. Beat USC. Knockout game with Arizona. Not a threat.
14. Nebraska - Plays Missouri. Potential conference championship game. Beat Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Knockout game with Missouri. Potential threat.
15. Arizona - Plays Stanford, USC, and Oregon. No conference championship game. Beat Cal. Knockout game with Stanford and Oregon. Potential threat.
16. Florida State - Plays North Carolina State. Potential conference championship game. Beat Miami. Not a threat.
17. Oklahoma State - Plays Kansas State, Baylor, and Oklahoma. Potential conference championship game. Has beaten nobody. Knockout game with Oklahoma. Potential Threat.
24. Nevada - Plays Boise State. Weak schedule. A non-BCS school with one loss has no shot. No conference championship game. Beat Cal. Knockout game with Boise State. Not a threat.
Everyone else has two losses or more. There are some threats, I list eight here, but all eight of them have to knock each other out. The worst case scenario with Oregon winning out (in my opinion) is that Alabama loses to both Auburn and LSU who both win out, one winning the SEC championship, the other just sitting around as a one-loss team. The Oklahoma/Oklahoma State winner wins out and faces the Nebraska/Missouri winner (who wins out) in the Big XII championship, and beats the other leaving one team. Would be worse if Missouri was undefeated. So the worst case scenario is that I have three teams who could challenge Oregon for a top two spot. But I don't think LSU leapfrogs Oregon as a one-loss team. So that leaves me with the SEC champion and the Big XII champion. Could Oregon finish behind both? Maybe. If they're both Auburn and Missouri then it could be the most dangerous for Oregon, but I think Oregon can top Missouri in the standings if both are undefeated.
