With the 2011 debut of unbeaten champion Uncle Mo set for this weekend, a strong effort could push the son of Indian Charlie into the position of overall favorite in Pool 2 of the Churchill Downs 2011 Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which opens its three-day run at noon EST on Friday, March 11.
Churchill Downs' oddsmaker Mike Battaglia listed the mutuel field, which includes all 3-year-olds other than the pool's 23 individual horses, as the 3-1 favorite and Uncle Mo as a close 7-2 second choice. Next on the morning line are Grade 2 Fountain of Youth winner Soldat at 8-1; San Vicente (Grade 2) winner The Factor and Holy Bull (Grade 3) winner Dialed In, both at 10-1; and unbeaten Brethren and Grade 2 Remsen winner To Honor and Serve are both listed at 15-1.
Uncle Mo was the overall second choice at 7-2 in February's opening pool, but was a clear favorite among its 23 individual horses. The mutuel field was the 2-1 overall favorite at 2-1 in the Feb. 18-20 pool. "All others" has been the KDFW Pool 1 choice every year since the bet's debut in 1999.
