Gary Johnson 2012: Live Free

After DennyCrane mentioned Gary Johnson, I've been doing a lot of research about him and he is who I think I will be voting for.

In a new video released today, "Live Free," Gov. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party nominee for President, declares that a second Obama administration or a first Romney administration will only lead to four more years of the same. Johnson is one of only three presidential candidates expected to be on the ballot in all 50 states.

"Send me to Washington, and I will spend four years doing what presidents SHOULD do: promoting the peace, increasing the freedom, and putting America and Americans first," says the former New Mexico Governor in the video. "Be Libertarian with me one time, and together we will make an America that's four years better, brighter and more optimistic."

Gary Johnson, two-term governor of New Mexico from 1995-2003, has been a consistent advocate for limited, efficient government and personal liberty. Johnson switched from the Republican Party to the Libertarian Party on Dec. 28, 2011. As the Libertarian Party nominee, Johnson will appear on all 50 states' ballots. An outspoken pro-Constitution Libertarian, Johnson would end the war in Afghanistan now. He opposes the failed multi-billion dollar war on drugs and demands greater transparency at the Federal Reserve. As president, Johnson would cut federal spending by 43 percent, slash debt and make government live within its means while reducing taxes and regulation to foster real job creation and economic opportunity like he did in eight years as governor. The National Review said he was "#1" in job creation as governor. An avid skier and bicyclist, he has reached the highest peaks on four of the seven continents, including Mount Everest.

The Libertarian Party presidential nominee, former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, said Thursday that the key to winning his longshot bid for the presidency is to participate in the presidential debates this fall and to win over the support of Ron Paul backers.

The third-party candidate told Politico in an interview that he wants to participate because the debates are the only way to effectively get his message out to the American people.
“Anything can happen [in the debates]. That could be crash and burn. [Or] it could bring attention to what it is I am saying, my resume,” he told Politico. “I think a lot more people in this country describe themselves as libertarian as opposed to voting libertarian. I think my voice is representative of the fastest growing segment of American politics today, which is libertarian.”

Mr. Johnson only participated in one presidential debate during the Republican primary race. However, the former New Mexico governor delivered one of the best lines of the primary race at the one he attended.
“My next door neighbor’s two dogs have created more shovel ready jobs than this president,” Mr. Johnson said at the Fox News/Google presidential debate.

“I’m really counting on Ron Paul voter support,” he said, noting that he didn’t expect Rom Paul to run for president in 2012. “I expect that a Ron Paul voter won’t vote for Mitt Romney.”
Mr. Johnson said he thinks many Americans share his idea of being “fiscally responsible and socially accepting,” and he indicated that he thinks many Americans also share his more controversial stances on war, drugs, and marriage equality.

“The majority of Americans are fiscally responsible, socially accepting. I’m in that category. That said, I’m different than the other two [candidates] in several categories,” he said. “I’m the only candidate that doesn’t want to bomb Iran. I’m the only candidate that wants to get out of Afghanistan tomorrow, bring the troops home. I’m the only candidate that’s talking about marriage equality from the standpoint of it being a constitutionally guaranteed right. Let’s end the drugs wars. Let’s repeal the Patriot Act. I would have never signed Defense Authorization Act. Let’s balance the federal budget tomorrow. Let’s abolish the IRS. Let’s eliminate the income tax, corporate tax, and replace it with one federal consumption tax. These are big differences with the other two.”
