this is off another Nets forum, but it's interesting.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "NetIncome":</div><div class="quote_post"> How to get three "MLE"s next year

1] the regular MLE which can also be divided to keep some of the free agents we have this year.

2] the equivalent of an MLE...using the $4.98 million remaining from the Kittles trade exception to do a sign and trade. Teams over the cap will not be able to match an offer above the MLE to certain free agents, so if the MLE stays the same, that extra $80,000 could come in handy to lure a decent free agent. This too can be divided. [Expires July 29]

3] trade Robinson and his $5.8 million team option to a club that wants to dump salary. Again, the Nets can get a player or players in return.

They cant be combined, but unless I am mistaken, they should all be available. And of course everything is dependent on the look of the new CBA.

Thorn's genius exposed once again!!!</div>

What ya'll think? Is this some good planning, or obvious results?

Thorn in my opinion is the best NBA executive out there, and it is just not for the reason above. He drafted Jordan, made the Kidd trade, just to name a few...

That Kittles trade is paying huge dividends, especially considering that Kittles has been injured almost the entire season.

I however do not see what plays the Nets can get for Robinson, I am not even sure what teams are dumping salary.

rod thorn is a real genius.. hope he can make more great deals and get the nets back on top.

Maybe the always rebuilding hawks, and/or bobcats?

he's done well for himself...Carter and a decent first rounder for Martin. As talented as Martin is I dont see him being a superstar, or even a perenial(sp?) star. Carter has the talent AND the drawing power which will be nice for a Bronx move if it happens.

^It's Brooklyn

Nets should stay in New Jersey. It wont matter because anywhere they go though, there will only be one MSG, and the Knicks will always dominate NY

I agree with you if the Nets keep the name Nets...I think a name change (a good one) could bolster them above MSG..Thats just my opinion.

^agreed. they're already the better team
