I personally don't like Hendrix's voice and his songwriting is average at best.
Hey Joe and All Along The Watchtower are great songs, but the rest of his stuff grates on me pretty quick.
The Doors - again Jim Morrison is a limited singer and their 8 minute jam sessions are kind of boring. Most of their songs are too simple to be much good. It's like they're missing something. What I mean is if you compare the songwriting of the Doors or Hendrix to U2, the Byrds, Stones, Springsteen or the Beatles, it's no contest.</div>
And I can't stand U2. I think that U2's lyrics are shallow and emotionless, and Bono's as fake as they come, whereas the actual songwritting is piss-poor. From a technical standpoint, it's more simplistic than your average Doors song. Simply put, listening to a U2 album straight through would make me want to take a bullet in the brain.
... not to start a flame war or anything.
As for Hendrix and Morrison being overrated because they died young, I adamently disagree with you, although that is in fact the case with other mainstream over-glorified artists *cough* Kurt Cobain *cough* Janis Joplin *cough*...
I'm not about to write a 10-page essay on why I think you're dead f**king wrong on Hendrix and Morrison, and I know as soon as I start typing on the matter that's what it'll turn into, so I'll just say that really, like you said, it's a matter of opinion. I personally think your opinion sucks.
