He also is one of the few celebs that really doesn't give a crap what people think of him. So I can forgive him doing his iPod commercials and showing up everywhere and the fact that recent U2 albums have not been very good - in fact, they're kind of like U2's version of elevator music. But the guy has some cool qualities. And it's not just cause I'm from Dublin.

Then In Flames, RATM, SOAD, Sepultra, At the Gates, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Mettalica, Mega Death, Slayer, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Dark Tranquillity, etc etc.

There is a lot of stuff out there, so if I were you, I'd listen to a little bit of everything that people are suggesting, so you know you're not going to miss anything. Then just mention some bands that you liked, so we really know what you like. Because it's still kind of fuzzy what exactly you're into.

I was into metal for a while, then rap, and now I moved onto more indie/alt rock stuff.

I plan to check out the other stuff you suggested in response to my post. . but EXCELLENT call on Iron Maiden. Not the usual stuff I listen to, but No More Lies is one helleva' song. Like Judas Priest + 10x better guitarring = Iron Maiden. Or at least, in that song.

If you're looking for metal stuff, let me throw my opinion in here:

Avenged Sevenfold (specifically Waking The Fallen or City of Evil)
Trivium (Ascendancy is probably the best heavy metal album I've ever heard)
Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Metallica (obvious one)
Megadeth
Mudvayne
Anthrax
Atreyu

Those are just some of my recommendations. I'm a fairly avid metal fan, getting back into over the past year or so after not really listening to much of it for a while.

Mushroomhead
Static-X
Adema
Rob Zombie

Just a few that I can think of right now.

I messed up. I mixed up metal with alternative. I hate the metal types and I like alternative.

My recommendation is Incubus. I personally love their sound.

Pearl Jam
Alice In Chains
Soundgarden
Rage Against the Machine
Jane's Addiction
Sonic Youth
Nirvana
The Pixies
Nine Inch Nails
Smashing Pumpkins

Try something that isn't mainstream. Though at your age I wouldn't worry about trying to discover underground music because I didn't care at the time either.

Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
The Smiths
Velvet Underground
The Police
Oasis
Radiohead
Muse
A Perfect Circle
Tool
Modest Mouse
The Shins
Pink Floyd
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
The Postal Service
The Flaming Lips

Thers alot of awsome new rock bands that are up and coming that i think alot of people would like:

Atreyu (fricken amazing)
Underoath
Bullet for my Valentine
Chevelle
Rise Against
As I lay Dying
30 seconds to mars
funeral for a friend
hawthorne heights
a perfect circle

cant really think of any more off the top of my head but those are all good ones.

Lately been listening the Chris Daughtry's debut album. I'm amazed that American Idol finally managed to pump out a good album, and I'm even more amazed that he didn't win it all after listening to this. The guy's got an amazing voice and his album just flat out rocks. If you get the chance, I'd definitely look into picking it up. It's not like the crappy pop that most Idol people put out, it's just good rock music. If you like bands like Nickelback, you should love it.

chiodos- great stuff
underoath- amazing stuff
drop dead gorgeous - damn good
halos for hookers- a mix of genre's done very right
