Good hiking spots in the Portland area?

Nothing really tough, just good views and such. Outside of the obvious Multnomah Falls.

Any suggestions?

The hike to The HCP's house when he is out of town is worth the trek.

The Clackamas River Trail is one of my favorites, or used to be

Tom Dick and Harry Mountain is a great hike with beautiful views

"not tough" is really vague Zags. Give a distance and elevation gain, or give an example of a hike you've done. I know you said "not multnomah falls" but I really like Wind Mountain in the gorge on the washington side.

I don't mind tough hikes at all. I prefer something challenging. I'm going with my gal pal and she wants somewhere to walk her Doberman. I was thinking Rooster Rock for the great view when you get to the top. Then again I cant remember if Rooster Rock is dog friendly or not.

the one I liked is dog friendly, just clean up after it please! Changing subjects, that website is a very good resource.

not familiar with the Portland part of the maps but NWHiker is one of my go to sites for hikes as it has difficulties, and pictures, etc. Gonna do Dog Mountain on through to Ausberger Mt on the Washington side in a few weeks. (that one sucks)

MZ, there are several out in the Gorge worth taking, and safe for a dog. Google Ruckle Ridge and there are several great hiking trails in the area. They're all out towards Rooster Rock Area/MF Area. I've taken my lab with me several times when she was an uncontrollable pup, and she handled any of those hikes just fine (and still does). You won't be disappointed.

Those two are amongst my favorites, but they're also amongst the best-known, so I didn't name them. Plus, MZ mentioned taking the dog. There are a few spots along Eagle Creek that make me nervous when I take my dog, but depending on weather conditions and how far in you hike, that can play into it as well.

There are just so many good ones out in the gorge, that google can help you find exactly what you're looking for.

There are some rad ones out at the coast that are great this time of year. There's a rad one at Cape Lookout that takes you down to a stretch of beach that is otherwise vacant. You just get people who swam there via surf board and hikers that decided to make the same hike in.

I see people with dogs on Eagle Creek all the time. Although I personally would be scared to take my dog next to some of those rock wall drop offs.

Argh, that was the site I was trying to remember (Yes, I know the title is basic - I did get distracted by work while looking up the site). Great, great site for anyone even interested in trying to find the exact hike (or walk) for their day.

haha I know exactly what spots you are talking about BlazingGiants and I agree.

Yeah, man. People are nuts. There are days the trail has been so icy that nobody is even on it, and we've barely survived the first stretch. And we get 4-5 miles in, haven't seen a soul all day, snack and then turn around, and then we'll see one person with 2-3 dogs. And that'll be the only person we see all day. Or maybe we'll see another person with another dog. But then that's it. It's happened that way 3-4 times.
