I have heard rumors that they are getting close to releasing their first version, perhaps this year. Seems like it really is the future.

They look like something I wouldn't just be wearing all of the time (unless you're a Universal Soldier or something).

Not feeling it, at least not yet. Maybe it'll take off, but I'd be surprised. Here's some of my issues with it:

- As the post above shows, they just look...weird.
- Glasses are way too prone to damage. Before I started wearing contacts, I would always sit on, drop, scratch, and otherwise unintentionally abuse them from the day I got them, not to mention losing a few pairs. They'd better he hella strong, not to mention able to survive the elements (i.e. rain, especially for us Oregonians). You can buy a case to help protect phones, but not so much for frames and lenses.
- What if I want/need to wear sunglasses?
- Sounds like unless you happen to always be in a Wifi area, your glasses will be very limited. I guess you can also hook up a 3G/4G phone to them? So now I have an ugly cord attached to these already-ugly glasses. Awesome...
- Not exactly how useful it will be for 90% of the population 90% of the time. In fact I would think it'd be distracting when trying to work, driving (and knowing where you're going already), etc.
- $1,500?! Wayyyy too much. I *might* consider them for a hundred bucks or so. Maybe.

Plus, I have some serious reservations about having something that is constantly emitting signals to cell towers/wifi on my head all the time. This just screams cancer.

Apparently they can be worn with prescription glasses, so I imagine they could be worn with shades.

They seem to me to be something that will eventually make its way into daily life, but five or ten years from now. They need a strong connection all the time, they need to be tested and debugged, and they need to spend a few years working into society so that everyday people feel comfortable with them. Also, they need to come down to the $400 price point, like an iPhone.

I would like to try one out, but no way would I spend 1500 on one.

Not until it is incorporated with designer glasses. People are too into style than walking around with something like this on their head.

At the heart of it, people are really into status. There's plenty of people who will gladly look like a moron and be proud doing so just to show everyone else that they're a) rich and b) on the cutting edge. Perhaps moreso here in SF than Oregon but these things will spread geographically over time as they become more "normal", more practical, and more affordable.

agreed. If it was incorporated into normal glasses, then people wouldn't as easily be able to show off that they spent 1500 on google glasses.

Looking weird is very easily fixed.

These aren't normal glasses, presumably you'd be taking better care of these.

I cannot imagine there being any problem at all regarding using it with sunglasses.

If you have to "attatch" a 3G/4G phone to it, I highly doubt there would be any cord...

These will definitely catch on, I think anyone who says otherwise is just in denial.

Can you imagine hanging out with someone wearing those? It'd be like hanging out with the annoying girl that wants to take pictures of everything 24/7.

That, and how self-important would you have to be to really want a pair? I already get annoyed at people who post too many stupid videos and pics on facebook. I can't imagine the douches that think you're interested in every aspect of their life.

There's also the added element that comes with being able to broadcast your every life action available to a restricted public.

With that said, it's cool technology, but the side effects coming from the realistic usage of the glasses overshadow the technological advances and outside-the-box thinking that the glasses embody.

I agree with all the criticisms here, and would like to point out that this will almost certainly be a generational thing. Once the prices come down, I guarantee that this (or something like this) will become as common as smart phones. This is the near future, and we are all going to be dragged (kicking and screaming) into it. I'm already preparing a "no ocular implants until you're 18" speech for my son...
