Seems like Google has been beating its head against the whole "social network experience" thing for a while now without much to show for it.

My understanding is that they've tied every employee in the company's bonus to the success of this, which means a shit-ton of very smart people actually care.

Interestingly, there's no easy way to import all your contacts from FB into Google+. I would think it would be a massively huge priority for Google to figure that out.
 
I hope it's successful because I'm sick of facebook.
 
Zuckerberg made the following statement:

"I'm not going to say a lot about Google+, we've all only spent a little time on the service....The last five years have been about connecting people, the next five years are about connecting apps. We'll see a lot of companies who haven't looked at social begin to build it into their apps. Not just Google. Netflix is a good example, they've talked openly about wanting to be more social...I view this as validation of how this is going to play out over the next five years. Every app is going to be social. If we build the best service, there's massive value there. If we don't, somebody else will."

I had invites earlier today and now the link is gone on my profile. After doing some quick research, it appears Google is sporadically opening the invites and then closing them. When I am able to, I will send some out. In the meantime, you can periodically check plus.google.com and it will say "Sign In" instead of "Keep me updated", which will allow you to join.

Interesting. Still, it seems to me like it's only a matter of time that somebody (Google?) develops an app that does it. It merely has to:
1. Fire up every time you open FB
2. Log the names of the first 2 people who appear in the Contacts pane.
3. Follow the trail to those Contacts' FB pages.
4. Log their location and picture in a local database.
5. Repeat the process over and over until it's captured everybody.

Then a week or two later the app submits the complete list of candidates to Google+, where it's compared to their database. G+ then presents you with a list of contacts for you to check/uncheck if you think they are matches.

Google is so damned smart. I'll be pretty surprised if they haven't figured out a way to do this eventually.

I have a gmail address, but I never use it. Can I use my Blazer or Yahoo email? Thanks man.
