I was on the trade Aldridge train. It wasn't hindsight either. That's a lousy bullshit retort.

That may be your opinion, but that doesn't make it a "bullshit retort". Maybe yours is a "bullshit retort" :bgrin:

I saw him make an awful fanpost with some stupid trade ideas on Blazers Edge a couple weeks ago.
That was the O-Live version of "The Bet". A while back a bet was made here and the problems from it are well documented. On O-live i once made a bet with BendBlazer. Loser was supposed to pay $100 to Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Of course i won the bet and he never paid up. But it never went much further except i will call him on it every time i see a post of his. I should probably just let it go. As you can tell i haven't just yet.

The only person that I can for sure say they wanted to trade Aldridge during that time on O-Live was BendBlazer22 and that was only because he had some personal hatred of him.

I don't understand why people are saying now that we had to trade Aldridge for Lillard to take over. The stuff about Aldridge not liking Lillard getting the spotlight didn't come out until afterwards. Why all of a sudden is the narrative that we couldn't build a team around both them?
Are bendy and Blazsem11 around anymore? Do you know others that migrated here that are under different name? Thanks

uh oh. I must have upset hobbes. :breakdance:
You are thinking too highly of yourself if you believe that.

Actually I am looking forward to more entertaining posts. I shared the aforementioned post with my girlfriend and we had a 'laughing your ass off' moment.

Naw, i'm actually a very level headed guy hobbes as you have never met me. I guess your response to stomp was just strange timing, lol

Try and stay cool as it's going to be a hot one

Honestly, I don't think bad of anyone here. I read for entertainment purposes and leave it at that. You are right it is a hot one. Be safe, partner.

I juat think the best case scenario of trading him was better than the best case scenario of him staying, and the worst case scenario for trading him was certainly better than the worst case scenario of him leaving.
This exactly.

Ah, now you are going to resort to personal attacks. You lost i'm moving on.
such a hypocrite. Your personal attacks started in your response to my first post which wasn't even addressed to you.

stomp seems to think the god given talent is enough.
And you seem to struggle with basic reading comprehension, among other things, but have no problem assigning views that in no way were expressed. You made a complete fool of your self in this thread. Congrats. Anointing yourself champion is a hilarious cherry on top.

I read and comprehend just fine. You simply don't articulate your point very well as you have often demonstrated.

what? You said you were done responding??? So surprising someone so unbelievably petty is responding minutes after my post. Shouldn't you be taking another victory lap?

Giannis is the 23 year old league MVP genius. Olshey passed on him. This thread is about Neil's performance as a GM. So sorry that the fastball analogy about the value of a GM recognizing off the charts god given talent didn't work for you, but thats back to the reading comprehension issue. Guessing you were a big John Nash guy too.

I always get a kick out of the hindsight projections. Looks to me like a guy bored and trying to make an issue out of something that is well in the past while the Blazers have been a pretty good team going forward. What's crazy is Verajo only counts for 1.9 mil and expires after the following season. If one keeps looking in the rear view mirror, he eventually ends up rear ending someone.

Agree with you here. It's less than 1.8% of the cap. Sure, it would be nice to have it off the books but it isn't "punishing" the team.

If Skal develops that is who the pick became after trading Swanigan.

Yeah, it's funny the guy didn't mention that we received a decent prospect in Skal for Swanigan that has more upside. No GM is perfect and they all have had their hits and misses and I see Olshey as one who has done a good job of keeping the Blazers relevant while continually modifying the roster.

maybe I'm recalling things wrong but I think it's a little more complex then that story lays out

the Blazers were well under the salary floor at the time of the trade. Only about 35-40% of Varejao's salary was still due but Portland got 'credit' for the full salary. And since they were under the floor, that actually saved them somewhere around 5-6M that season. That savings needs to be stacked up against the salary and tax from the 2nd year of Varejao's contract the Blazers were holding.

so then, that 2nd year was about 9.6M (1.913M/year for 5 years). So if Portland saved 6M from the salary floor benefit, then they paid 3.6M for the draft pick in salary. The rest of the cost would be tax. If you just pro-rate the 1.9M against the tax last season and this season, then that's still probably less than 4M the Blazers will end up paying for that pick. That may be a little high, but not really excessive.

On the other hand, if you apply dead salary against the tax first, which may be better accounting (or may not), then that pick gets considerably more expensive...maybe in the 8M range. Even then it's not the terrible mistake the writer makes it out to be. Taking Swanigan wasn't smart but that area of the draft craps out at a pretty high level

The Blazers are struggling big-time right now. They'd have to go 5-0 to even meet @THE HCP 's meager 20-game predictions. That said, I still believe their problems are tied to acclimation, coupled with injuries. I strongly believe in Stotts, and his ability to figure things out in late-December and January.

He has and even now we are in a decent position to make a trade or two.
There were many in here before last season started that would rather blow it up and Im glad we didn't.
I actually am encouraged by also having some young guns that look like they could be lethal in a couple years or sooner. Ant, ZMan, Little
