Gonzalez surprises De La Nava in first round

There was a surprising result in the first round of the Grand Prix Hassan II on Monday as qualifier Maximo Gonzalez progressed.
Qualifier Maximo Gonzalez sprung a surprise in the first round of the Grand Prix Hassan II with a straight-sets win over Daniel Munoz de la Nava.

Gonzalez needed 72 minutes to ease to a 6-1 6-4 win over the world number 75 in Marrakech, the Argentine setting up a second round match with either Paul-Henri Mathieu or sixth seed Albert Ramos Vinolas.

Jiri Vesely outclassed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez at the Grand Prix Hassan II, while Borna Coric outlasted veteran Paul Henri-Mathieu.

Top seed and former champion Guillermo Garcia-Lopez was dumped out of the ATP Grand Prix Hassan II in the quarter-finals by Jiri Vesely.

Spaniard Garcia-Lopez was a victor in Marrakech in 2014, but Czech Vesely - seeded eighth - had too much in a 6-4 7-6 (7-2) victory on Friday.

Coric to face Delbonis in Grand Prix Hassan II final

Third-seeded Borna Coric beat eighth-seeded Jiri Vesely 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) on Saturday to reach the Grand Prix Hassan II final, where he will bid for his first career title.

The 19-year-old Croat will take on Argentine Federico Delbonis, who eliminated Spaniard Albert Montanes 6-4, 6-3.
