Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh battling bladder cancer

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh is battling bladder cancer, he revealed in a Facebook postcanceling two upcoming shows.

The 75-year-old Phil & Friends frontman, who was diagnosed earlier this month, has spent weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz., undergoing tests. He will soon go under the knife to remove tumors, he said Friday evening.

He attempted to allay fans' fears with a hopeful prognosis, saying he plans to "return to normal activities in two weeks from [his] surgery."
