ok, we've probably had these before..but there's a twist.

Instead of giving the actual lyrics (I mean, who can't google), how about we give a variation on it?

Such as:

I arrived from a land where crocodiles are plentiful...

would be "land down under".

Or..

He was from a previous time, long time ago, in her life, and had quite an over active memory over what their mutual experiences are. He was trying to remember what happened, but she didn't remember it. She chuckled over what he said, but soon he realized he was remembering something that didn't take place. what a buffoon!

That'd be "what a fool believes".

I don't have one right now, I just blew my wad over the two samples i gave.

Anyone have one or is this just going to be a BGD type thread? ;)

I take great umbrage with officials of law enforcement.

Indiana wants me.
Lord I can't go back there.

Hey! You can't move on to a new song until mine is beaten!

I fucking try to be one of YOU...... and I just can't!

I just don't understand all your NERD games and internet jokes! While I'm at it......I know what lol means, but what the fuck is lolz?

Your inability to think of songs from the past thirty years is really killin ya.

That's when Rock & Roll died, when Reagan took over. Actually, it was 4 years earlier when disco took over.

I'm going back, not forward. I thought of the pro-drug hit songs, the lead actor in "South Pacific" singing to Mitzi Gaynor about how he killed a man in Europe so he's in self-exile in Bali Hai, the Busby Berkeley movie "They Made me a Criminal"...that wasn't a musical. Les Miserables had nothing.

Everything died in the 80s.

Oooooo so close.

Well then it's gotta be NWA... Fuck tha Police...

---

I dig the general idea behind the premise of the thread, but there's got to be some better way to go about it, because a lot of great songs don't have a consistent narrative.

It'd be cool to have a music guessing game where people posted actual music, and posters weren't able to Google lyrics or Shazam songs, but that's pretty much impossible.

---

Until anyone can brainstorm something better though, I like this idea, and I'll translate the gist of a song that most people think is a fun and uplifting but actually has a darker meaning -

"I'm tired of relying on my drug dealer. He beats me up and steals my shit, so I've got to hide my few valuables.

I'll stop using drugs tomorrow.

I've got to hit the streets as a hooker, but without my hooker costume, I'm too aware of the reality of my bleak life. Even though I'm hooking it, I have unrealistic dreams of a future far away from here, when I get my money right.

I'll stop using drugs tomorrow.

I'm deeply depressed about my current situation as a intravenous drug user, so I'll try to shoot up again, but I can't find a capable vein, because I've got abscesses that are preventing me from finding direct access to my veins.

Etc."

^^^

If anyone gets that one, Repped. A clue is that it's a semi-feel good song from 90's alt era, but it's only a "semi" feel good song, because even though the lyrics appear to be uplifting, and the melody suggests the same, it's actually an unexpectedly dark hit song.

Oh yeah, NWA! I actually bought that album about 10 years ago. I haven't put it on for about 4 years. It's...interesting. Rap is alright if you don't require tunes in your music. I want a tune, a beat, and sing it fast and get it over with.

so rattle, rattle, rattle it newborn, rattle it newborn, rotate and yell, rotate and yell!

You got it

I first heard you on my portable back in 1952
I lay awake with the sole purpose of tuning into you.
Even though I may have been young, it had no bearing on whether or not you came through

Someone else claimed credit to your abilities.
Things have changed, and things have been replaced.
and now I see the same issues that you see.

Inside of my soul and also inside of my vehicle, we can't go back to how things used to be.
A different form of media came and hurt your feelings, blame it all on the a new form of media.

This one should be super easy.

You're right, that was easy.

Video killed the radio star.

Alright, here's mine. Warning--it's country music.

A few hours before dawn, nobody's around.
The town appears deserted, as does the summer night sky
Precipitation resides on automotive glass; unpleasant weather is en route.
A man is returning from a forbidden location.
A brontide is audible
A brontide is audible

All bulbs are lit in a semi-distant residence
A woman moves aimlessly next to her communication device while wearing old, warm sleepwear
Requesting an unexplainable positive outcome, desiring her instincts to be incorrect
Asking God to make the unpleasant climate conditions the reason that her man has not returned home this evening.
A brontide is audible
A brontide is audible
